VICTORIA PARK - PAIGNTON

A few days a go, a couple of children were witnessed tormenting the swans in the park. They tried to place a bag over the head of a cygnet, then they proceeded to fed one of the other cygnets a plastic bag!

Kind locals have been keeping an eye on the cygnets and letting us know if any appear unwell. We’d really appreciate your help too. Should you spot a cygnet that appears unwell, please contact us. If you witnessed this incident please report it to the police.

If you witness children behaving like this, please intervene where appropriate and gather as much evidence as possible, including photos or videos. This evidence can be extremely helpful when reporting incidents to the police.

BEAKY - EXETER QUAY

Well look who we have back in!

This is the terror that came in due to having constant eye infections in his blind eye. The best option was to remove the eye.

Beaky has thoroughly enjoyed the hot weather, as it means more kayaks and rowing boats to attack. He's also been fighting a lot with his neighbours.

Through out his latest crusade he's managed to damage his non-eye quite significantly, so the fluid couldn't leak out as it should.

With the help of the wonderful canal gents and their boat, Beaky was brought in today, and taken straight to the vet for surgery. The vet released all the fluid and pressure in the socket.

He's now resting, far away from the annoying kayaks and awful neighbours.
He'll be home again soon.

We've now incurred another vet bill. If anyone can help with this, it would be much appreciated.

ABBOTS KERSWELL

The cygnets from Dainton Golf course, seem to think they're from an Enid Blyton book. They keep disappearing off on their own little adventures.

This evening 2 were found on a path in the middle of nowhere, and 1 was found by another couple caught between barbed wire fences.

Their Dad has disappeared to a pond over a mile away, probably to have a break. But the cygnets keep wandering off looking for him.

If you do spot a lone cygnet in the area, please contact us. Or, if you're confident, pick them up and return them to the golf course. At this age, they can be picked up and held under your arm.

A successful release of one of the many House Martins that have come in this year.

Sadly House Martins, Swallows and Swifts have struggled with the heat. The nests have been crumbling and disintegrating leaving whole clutches of babies on the floor. In other cases chicks have been pushed out of their nests, because they're are all jostling for some space and air.

We usually like to release somewhere with more space, but this is where the residents house martins were.

Chicks eat up to 3000 insects a day!!!
Luckily we can give them substantially bigger insects than what they would receive in the wild.

Having up to 20 House Martins, Swallows and Swifts in, at one time. The cost of insects is high, a bag on 1000 crickets is £22.39 (Slitherin Reptiles)
This can very quickly add up.

Another little one passing through. Raised by an Exeter based rehabber, this young lady had a few sleep overs before going to join another young polecat in Bude.
