The workshop is led by Tom, a Veteran of the Royal Tank Regiment. Tom discovered miniature painting as a hobby shortly after the release of Warhammer 40,000’s 8th Edition and is entirely self-taught, developing his skills through practice, experimentation, and a genuine love for the craft.
While deployed overseas, Tom always carried a small supply of paints and miniatures with him, using the hobby as a way to relax and focus during downtime.
Today Tom works as a Specialist Tutor at College Level and as a commissioned miniature artist, painting for a range of clients and running workshops to help others discover the hobby. At the heart of his teaching is a simple philosophy: there is no such thing as a badly painted miniature. Every model is a step in the learning process, and the most important part of the hobby is simply picking up a brush and getting started.
About Tom Matthews
This series of one-hour webinars is designed to take complete beginners from a plain, primed miniature to a finished model ready for the tabletop. Many online tutorials claim to be beginner-friendly but often assume prior experience or access to specific equipment. These sessions start from the absolute basics, explaining the tools, techniques, and simple methods needed to begin painting with confidence. The focus is on getting people actually sitting down and painting, step by step, in a relaxed and supportive environment. While painters of any experience level are welcome, the series is aimed primarily at those who have never painted a miniature before or who feel unsure about where to start.
