".. an Experiment in Art"

Really Enjoyed visiting the Box to see the Rana Begum and Sir Joshua Reynolds 300 Exhibitions. Thank-you to the curators for giving us a tour. The colourful works of Rana Begum fill the St Lukes Building adjacent to the museum and also flood the stair well with colour.

The Sir Joshua Reynolds Exhibitions brings together a number of his important works from UK collections in celebration of 300 years since his Birth. Although these Georgian portraits with neoclassical poses seem familiar today, when they were fresh from his studios they were as controversial and edgy as any of todays Turner Prize artists.

Of Course there are the other Exhibits such as Stanhope Forbes Fish Sale, The Armada Portrait, Drakes Drum, and Mildred the Mammoth . Lots of school children were visiting the museum as part of the "Mission Mammoth STEAMFest", tasked with using their Creative STEAM Skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) to design a enclosure for Mildred!

It is a wonderful thing to see someone get what they’ve worked so hard for. His sheer graft and love of Plymouth is going to do so much good for the people of Efford and Lipson 🌹
