🌿Streetcare Success: Overgrown Vegetation Cut Back Across Westwood and Ravensthorpe🌿

Overgrown vegetation and sightline issues have been tackled across the area.
Following reports from residents, Streetcare teams have attended and completed works at:
✅ 39 Pendleton – vegetation cut back on both sides of the footpath
✅ 30 Naseby Close – bushes sided up and brambles cleared
✅ 41 Everdon Way – vegetation cut back to improve corner visibility
✅ 19 Swanspool – weeds strimmed and hedge cut back
✅ Brookfurlong / Raleigh Way junction – bushes reduced to improve sightlines
✅ 50 Pendleton – vegetation cut back on both sides of the footpath
🍂 Pendleton update: Some areas may be considered for more substantial winter reduction works, including lowering corners to improve visibility further.

👏 Thank you to residents who reported these issues. Please keep sending me local streetcare concerns so they can be logged, chased, and resolved.

Working together to keep Aragon safer, clearer, and tidier.

Celebrating 60 Years of Westwood: A Proud Milestone for Our Community

We were honoured to attend the 60 Years of Westwood celebration at WestRaven Community Café today, marking an important milestone in the history of our community.

For six decades, Westwood has been home to generations of families, neighbours, volunteers, community groups and local champions who have all helped shape the area into what it is today. This celebration was not only a chance to look back at the history of Westwood, but also to recognise the strength, resilience and pride of the people who continue to make it such a special place.

The exhibition of photographs, articles and memorabilia was a powerful reminder of how much Westwood has changed over the years, while also showing that the heart of the community has remained strong. It was wonderful to see residents of all ages coming together, sharing memories, enjoying the activities and celebrating the community spirit that Westwood is known for.

We would like to give our sincere thanks to all the organisers, volunteers, staff, performers, stallholders, community groups and everyone who worked so hard to make the event such a success. Events of this kind do not happen without dedication, planning and teamwork, and today was a clear example of what can be achieved when people come together for the good of the community.

WestRaven Community Café and the wider community garden continue to play an important role in bringing people together, supporting local residents and creating a welcoming space for families. Today’s celebration showed the very best of Westwood: pride in our history, care for one another, and hope for the future.

As ward councillors for Ravensthorpe, we are proud to support events and initiatives that strengthen community ties and give residents a voice. We remain committed to working with local organisations, volunteers and residents to support Westwood, Ravensthorpe and the wider Peterborough community.

Congratulations to Westwood on 60 amazing years. This is a milestone to be proud of, and we look forward to seeing the community continue to grow, thrive and achieve even more in the years ahead.

Overgrown hedges at Deene Court / Hartwell Way junction

The hedges and vegetation at the Deene Court junction with Hartwell Way had become badly overgrown and were blocking visibility for drivers and pedestrians.

They have now been cut back, improving sightlines and making the area safer.

Thank you to the grounds team for attending and clearing the obstruction.

Moorfield Road resurfacing update

From Cllr Raja Sabeel Ahmed, Ravensthorpe Ward

I have received an update regarding the planned micro-asphalt works on Moorfield Road.

The works were due to take place this year, and the road had been assessed with the contractor. However, when the site team arrived, they confirmed that Moorfield Road was too narrow for their machine, so the works had to be postponed.

The contractor is now arranging another visit with the intention of hand-laying the areas that could not be completed in March.

There is no confirmed date at this stage, but the works are currently expected to take place in August or September.

Residents should receive letters a couple of weeks before the works begin, and signs will also be placed on site to advertise the closure dates.

I will continue to monitor this and share further updates once a confirmed date is available.

ACTION DELIVERED: NEW STREET NAME PLATES INSTALLED IN NETHERTON

Clear new street name plates have now been installed on Cranford Drive, Wilton Close and Brocklesby Gardens after the old, faded signs were reported by Cllr Gul Nawaz and Cllr Raja Sabeel.

Residents raised concerns that the previous signs were worn and difficult to read. We took action, reported the issue, and are pleased to see the replacements now in place.

This is about getting the basics right — making our streets easier to identify for residents, visitors, delivery drivers and emergency services, while helping keep Netherton looking tidy and well maintained.

We will continue listening to residents, reporting local issues and pushing for improvements across Netherton.

Calling on Our Community: Become a Dementia Friend

We’re encouraging local residents, businesses, volunteers and community groups to become Dementia Friends.

The programme helps people learn more about dementia and the simple actions we can all take to support people living with the condition. These actions do not have to be time-consuming — even showing patience and understanding can mean the world.

Let’s work together to make our community more welcoming, understanding and dementia friendly.
