Dear Single Parent,
Thank you so much for reaching out and exploring what support and community can be available to you, as a single parent, in the Peterborough area.
Gingerbread fights to create a world where all single parents and their children thrive. Originating from the merging in 2007 of two charities; an initiative starting in 1918 after WWI, and a support group formed in the 1970’s. Named after one of the first meeting locations, The Gingerbread Café 😊
The Peterborough Gingerbread Group was set up in May 2025. The purpose is to make meaningful connections and friendships, amongst single parents in Peterborough and the surrounding areas, and to facilitate access to peer guidance and advice. Where local single parents, and their children, can feel happy and connected, and safe and supported.
Single dads, and single mums, and other single parents, are all welcome. The founder of the Peterborough Single Parents Gingerbread Group, is a single dad, with two boisterous football mad boys, aged 7 and 9.
We aim to meet up at least once per month, for single parents in Peterborough, and their children. So far we have the following planned meetups between 1pm to 3pm on the following Saturdays in 2025: 13th June, 11th July, 5th September, 3rd October, 14th November, and 12th December. A group meeting could also be possible in August 2025.
We use a variety of locations including Ferry Meadows, Peterborough Museum, Soft Play, Community Centre, Parks, Recreation Grounds, and Café’s.
We can arrange additional meetups, and child-free meetups. We can also create meetups for parents with children of a certain age range, such as 0-3, 4-7, 8-12, teenagers, or a group for single dads, LGBTQ parents, single mums, younger parents, etc.
We communicate mainly via WhatsApp, but we can also share helpful information via our page, including other local or national events.

It is important to note that whilst we aim to be supportive, we do also aim for our meetups and WhatsApp group chat to be upbeat and hopeful.
