Our next tip for is all about recycling small electricals and household batteries - and the good news is, you can do it right at the kerbside in Oxford 🗑

🔌 Small electricals
Pop items like toasters, hairdryers, kettles, chargers and cables into a clear bag and place on top of your green rubbish bin or blue recycling bin for weekly collection.

🔋 Household batteries
Place batteries in a clear bag on top of your blue recycling bin lid for bi-weekly collection.

🏘️ Live in a flat with shared bins?
You can still recycle your small electricals and batteries - drop them off at a nearby collection point. Visit Recycle Your Electricals to find the closest spot.

To kick off , our first tip is all about managing bulky waste responsibly ♻️

Before throwing items away, think reuse or repair:

💚 Donate items in good condition to local charities (some offer kerbside collection)
🤲 Pass things on to friends, family or neighbours
🔨 Visit a repair café to fix and refresh items

If it can’t be reused:
🚛 Book a household bulky waste collection
🏘️ Take items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre, ideal if you live in a flat with shared bins or want to recycle items sooner

Reusing and repairing keeps valuable materials in use for longer and saves money 🌍

Recycle your food waste in Oxford with our FREE weekly collection service! 🌱

🍏 What can go in your food caddy?
Tea bags, coffee grounds, fruit peel, leftovers, meat, fish, bones — even cooking oil (placed in a plastic bottle). If it’s food, it can go in.

🛍️ How to line your caddy:
Use a compostable liner, a plastic bag (just not black), newspaper, or leave it unlined — whatever suits you.

⏰ How often can I recycle my food waste?
Food waste is collected every week, so scraps aren’t sitting in your rubbish bin for two weeks that could create smells or attract pests.

⚡ Where does your food waste go?
In Oxford, it’s taken to the anaerobic digestion plant in Cassington, where it’s transformed into biogas to power homes and nutrient rich fertiliser for local farmland 🌾 ⚡

📉 Why it matters:
Across the UK, 60% of food waste happens at home. Every year, households throw away 4.4 million tonnes of edible food — worth £17.5 billion and creating 16 million tonnes of greenhouse gases. Cutting food waste is one of the quickest ways to save money and help the planet 🌍 💚

Got bulky items you no longer need? Before booking a household collection, see if they can be given a second life ♻️

❤️ Could someone else use it?
Donate to a local charity shop — some even offer home collections.

🔧 Could it be repaired?
Repair Cafés can fix furniture, small appliances and more.

🏡 Could it be rehomed?
Offer it to a friend, neighbour or family member.

🚗 Still need to dispose of it?
As well as home collections, you can drop items at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), such as Redbridge.
