I am a proud husband, father, and grandfather with deep roots in our community. My story begins with my late father, a first-generation immigrant who arrived in the United Kingdom in the 1960s and worked tirelessly in the steel mills to provide for our family. Growing up in a working-class household, I attended local state schools and, in the late 80s, became the first in my family to attend unive
rsity, graduating with an LLB Hons law degree. In 1994, I began my career at a local law firm here in Oldham. Over the years, I qualified as a solicitor and have dedicated my life to advocating for children's and human rights. For the past 30 years, I have served our community, focusing on helping vulnerable and low-income families with issues such as housing and debt, and representing clients whose fundamental human rights were at stake. But my commitment to Oldham goes beyond my professional work. As a volunteer i have worked with the Deputy Registrar of Oldham, I assist with out-of-office burials for all faith groups, ensuring dignity and respect for all. I helped establish this vital service, working closely with the Oldham Registry Office. Additionally, I have served as a school governor and worked with numerous local community organisations. After the disturbances in Oldham in 2001, I became an active member of the coalition against racism, successfully campaigning against right-wing groups and fostering peace and unity in our community.
