Want to make a difference in your local area. Sick and tired of nothing being done; seeing the gradual decline of our town and local areas under this Labour administration for the last 15 years then we have a lot in common. That's the reason 12 months ago I applied to be a Reform UK candidate.
As someone that's worked in the private sector and paid my taxes I thought I could bring a new perspective and fresh ideas to the stale established public sector incumbents.
Now as a newly elected Reform UK Councillor I know I've made a difference already, being tenacious and dealing with residents complains swiftly.

Busy evening tonight, firstly at the Town Hall with Cllr Quigg and Tarbuck meeting with Alex Bougatef, Dir of Legal Services, and planning officers discussing Arncliffe Rise and Clough Manor legal actions.
Then off to the Three Crowns attending the Austerlands and Scouthead Community Groups meeting. Congratulations to Jackie who becomes the new Chair and her new team. I’m sure the group will continue to go from strength to strength. Interesting to hear local residents concerns on road safety issues in the area which I’ve already started work on.

Oldham currently has 60 councillors representing 20 wards, with three councillors in each ward. Under the usual system, only one councillor in each ward is elected at a time, meaning only one third of the council normally faces the electorate at each local election. We believe Oldham would be better...

The inevitable happened again last night in the EGM trying to elect a leader and an administration.
Firstly Brian Hobin put himself forward for leader, supposed independent that propped Labour up last year in return for being made Deputy Major. Clearly a none starter.
Labour tried again stating they’d listened and would be different this time, boy that cried wolf springs to mind.
Reform obviously tried again to gain support for a minority administration and got 19 votes in total (one of our guys was on holiday) so 4 votes from other parties, thanks for your support. However obviously not enough votes and Lewis also lost the vote to become leader.
It staggers me the other parties try to act that they are the voice of reason and how Reform should support the rag tag coalition to break the impasse however when asked to support Reform they are completely intransigent.
At times things got a little heated and personal which basically shows that a shared leadership model proposed by the Oldham Gp would implode very quickly. Whatever the Lib Dem’s proposal was having a lottery for cabinet members and a Lib Dem leader ( they have 6 seats) was a none starter as well.
Very rarely I agree with Arooj Shah however her summary that it should really be a choice between the two largest parties was accurate.
Don’t be fooled by social media saying Reform were the issue here, the Oldham Grouo and Lib Dem’s are mainly to blame for digging their heels in and then coming up with spurious excuses as to why they couldn’t work with us.
Let’s see what happens now however whatever it is it won’t happen quickly, this is local Government after all. Next May will be here before we know it and hopefully Reform will have further success and take control once and for all.

𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗨𝗞 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗢𝗹𝗱𝗵𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸

Last nights Extraordinary Meeting of Oldham Council solved nothing. The deadlock remains. While Reform UK brought the only new ideas and practical solutions, residents once again watched the same tired amendments, the same manoeuvring, and the same fragile alliance that has failed to deliver strong leadership.

Oldham is being run by a shaky collection of interests more focused on protecting their own arrangements than on governing. This cannot continue.

There are two clear ways out:

An all-out election – let the people of Oldham decide who runs the borough.

Four-year election cycles – deliver the stability needed for real leadership, clear accountability and better value for taxpayers.

The current “strong leader and cabinet” system, inherited from the Blair era, was meant to create decisive government. Instead, when no one holds a stable majority, it traps councils in endless uncertainty with no proper mandate. Residents deserve better than perpetual bargaining. They deserve a council that decides, directs and delivers – and is held to account for results.Reform UK’s priority remains simple: protect Oldham taxpayers. Political instability costs money. Every day wasted on positions and procedures is a day not spent on cleaner streets, safer communities, better services and value for money.Power belongs with residents, not backroom deals.

Reform UK Group Leader Councillor Lewis Quigg said: “What was clear last night was that no one wanted to work with Reform UK. Despite saying we should work together, in reality it meant working for them rather than with them. That’s not what the electorate voted for. We offered three clear options: a minority Reform UK administration, a special all-out election in May 2027, and a change to all-out elections once every four years. All options were rejected. It is clear the majority of Councillors are scared to go back to you, the voters. It is clear they have contempt for the electorate having the final say.”

The meeting didn’t break the deadlock. It proved one thing beyond doubt: Oldham needs Reform – and Reform UK will stand next May with a simple message:
