Two children have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a road traffic collision in Aspley.

Emergency services were called to Grannis Drive at 3.50pm today (Friday) after a collision involving a large car and the children.

The boys, both aged 12, are being treated in hospital

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and is helping officers with their inquiries.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Sergeant Paul Clark, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

"This was a very serious and distressing incident, and our thoughts are with the injured children and their families.

"As we work to understand exactly what happened in the moments leading up to this collision, we'd like to speak with everyone who saw or heard what happened."

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 525 of 19 June 2026.

A project aimed at improving the response to spiking reports by increasing victims' accessibility to testing kits has been extended to cover the World Cup football tournament.

We’re one of three forces taking part in a pilot project, named Project Alliance, which is being led by the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls and Public Protection (NCVPP).

We already know spiking is underreported to us, but we still want victims to come forward for testing, even if they don’t want a criminal justice outcome.

As part of this initiative, spiking victims can now access multi-drug urine testing kits which are available from specific local hospitals and health centres, not just from the police, giving them more options for support.

The test will detect and identify known substances people may have been spiked with.

There is also information provided on how to use these testing kits which will be available during the pilot which was initially launched in March and has since been extended until 31 July 2026.

So far, we've received 42 reports of spiking since the pilot project was launched.

DCI Chris Berryman, our spiking lead, said: “The pilot has gone well from a police perspective. We want to make testing more accessible and remove some of the stigma of reporting crime.

"We want victims to feel they are able to report incidents to us as well as making them more aware of spiking and the support available to them.

“If you believe you have been spiked, please come forward and report it to us.

"The sooner it is reported, the better the chance we have of identifying offenders and stopping them from harming others.

“You will be listened to and taken seriously. We’re here to support you and help you get the answers you need.”

Potential spiking victims can report an incident or find out more information by calling us on 101 or reporting online here: https://orlo.uk/hyRM6

We’re currently seeing an increase in calls about general noise, such as loud music, garden gatherings, or neighbour disturbances. While we understand these situations can be frustrating, many noise concerns are not police matters and are usually best dealt with by your local council.

Your local council’s environmental health team has the powers to assess and take action where needed.

There are some circumstances where police involvement may be necessary, such as if noise is linked to anti-social behaviour in a public place, or if there is evidence of crime or an immediate risk to safety.

By contacting the right service first, you can help ensure your issue is resolved more quickly and keep the 101 and 999 lines free for those who need them most.

📞 Always call 999 in an emergency, where there is a threat to life or crime in progress.

Thank you for your understanding.

Emergency services have issued a warning about the dangers of swimming in open water after more than 100 people attended one beauty spot over the bank holiday weekend.

Our officers were called to Holme Pierrepont, in Rushcliffe, on Monday (25 May) following reports groups were jumping into the water.

There were also additional reports of people entering the River Trent from both sides of the water close to the Weir Fields Recreation Ground, Beeston Rylands.

Advice was given by our neighbourhood officers who attended the scene on Monday and both locations will be monitored over the coming days.

Almost half of accidental drownings happen in the warmer months and often involve people who take a spur-of-the-moment decision to enter the water.

Dangers posed by open water can include very cold temperatures, even in summer months, strong underwater currents, unexpected water depths and other hazards such as debris, weeds, pumps and mechanical equipment.

Inspector Tim Cuthbert, neighbourhood inspector for Rushcliffe, said: "It’s going to remain very warm and sunny this week and people will obviously want to be out and about enjoying the start of summer.

"People will want to be keeping cool but jumping into open water puts yourself and other people's lives at risk.

“The Trent and other rivers and canals around Nottinghamshire may look incredibly enticing but you won’t know the dangers that lurk beneath the surface.

“There are no lifeguards, you don’t know how deep it is, or what’s in the water.

“You could get tangled up in the weeds, land on a discarded shopping trolley, and hurt yourself.

“Even with the hot weather, the water could still be cold causing you to go into cold water shock.

“No matter how strong of a swimmer you believe you are, or if your mates are jumping in, or you’re following a trend on TikTok and egging each other on – remember the dangers.

"I'd also urge people not to be a bystander, if you see anyone putting themselves at risk, tell them they could get seriously hurt.

“Please enjoy the good weather but don’t go jumping or swimming in open water, it’s really not worth the risk.”

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager, Natasha Neale, added: “We would reiterate the safety advice from our colleagues in Policing.

“If you see someone in difficulty in the water, phone 999 and ask for the fire service.

"Give an accurate location using what3words or landmarks and instruct the person to float on their back. Never enter the water yourself.”

A speeding driver has been jailed after causing a crash that left a woman requiring surgery.

Rhys Courtney, aged 22, was driving in close proximity to several other vehicles on the A52 near Bramcote when the collision occurred on the evening of 18 January last year.

Our officers arrived at the scene at about 10pm and were immediately confronted with a serious collision involving three vehicles – one of which had been hit from behind and sent spinning off the carriageway.

The female passenger suffered a broken collarbone in the incident, while the male driver sustained significant bruising.

A dog travelling in the car also required veterinary treatment as a result of the crash.

Courtney was spoken to at the scene and was arrested nine days later.

During his police interview, he initially claimed to have been driving at around 60 or 70mph after deciding with a friend to “drive around the area aimlessly”.

Courtney was then confronted with damning mobile‑phone footage showing his silver Seat rapidly closing on the car in front before hitting it as he swerved to avoid it.

He then admitted to going “a bit fast” and claimed the incident had made him a more cautious driver.

Courtney, of Carlton, later pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday 4 March, he was jailed for 18 months.

He was also banned from driving for two years and nine months.

If he is to drive legally again, he will have to pass an extended re‑test when his ban expires.

Courtney appealed the sentence when it was imposed. That appeal has now been dismissed.

PC Pip Luxton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Courtney can consider himself fortunate not to have killed anyone with his reckless and dangerous behaviour.

“The victims in this incident were doing what the vast majority of road users do every single day – driving within the speed limit in a safe and sensible way.

“Their reward for that care and consideration was to be hit violently from behind by a man who chose to go out that night and drive dangerously and aggressively.

“I am pleased he has now been held to account.”

Inspector Usha Madara, district commander for Broxtowe, added: “As Courtney has discovered to his cost, the consequences of this kind of behaviour can be very serious indeed

“I hope what has happened to him acts as a warning to other young men about the consequences of such recklessness, stupidity, and disregard for the safety of other road users.”
