Bank Holiday Ghost Hunt write up.

30th August Investigation – Stanford House & The Salutation Inn

Two historic buildings. Two very different locations. One fascinating night of investigation.

On Sunday 30th August, we had the opportunity to investigate two intriguing Nottingham locations in one night: Stanford House and Ye Olde Salutation Inn.

Both locations provided a fantastic setting, but it was the experiences throughout the evening that really caught our attention.

Stanford House

Our first location was Stanford House on Castle Gate in Nottingham city centre.

Our first session was Singapore Theory.

After an introduction to the history and activity of the building, alongside playing old orchestra music, it was time to begin our investigation.

We placed our new Polysonix device in the doorway which continued to activate cold fluxerations as we called out.

Additional sensors had been placed along the hallway with further activation on the Envirobell as the guests were calling out in response to the history of the property.

One of our guests reported sensing two ladies wearing bonnets, whom he associated with the names Mary and Martha. He also described the feelings of two small children playing upstairs.

He then reported receiving a warning from Charles to watch out for someone called Jack Holten/Holtern, describing him as devious.

Things became even more intense when the guests suddenly experienced a severe stabbing sensation in his side. He described it as feeling as though someone had plunged a knife into him. The sensation was so intense that he had to leave the room.

It was certainly a strange start to the evening and immediately got everyone’s attention.

Blindfolded Victorian Seance

Next came our Victorian Blindfolded Seance.

All participants were blindfolded and had to rely on their other senses. The atmosphere quickly became intense as the spirit box filled the room with sounds and fragments of words.

Then the door behind us opened.

The sound echoed around the room despite the spirit box continuing in the background.

Several guests also began reporting footsteps and faint knocking coming from the room next door.

One brave guest sat alone in that room while the session continued. She reported that the sounds appeared to be coming from either our room or the hallway.

It made for a particularly unusual session.

Coffin Estes & Human Pendulum

For the next part of the investigation, we asked the guest to pick sessions they would like to do and we split into two groups.

One group took part in a Coffin Estes session while the other conducted a Human Pendulum in the main hallway.

During the Coffin Estes communication, a message was received suggesting that a man was coming and that repeatedly asked to go "up"

Two brave guests followed the message by heading upstairs to the safe room, where they conducted lone vigils to see whether anything further would happen.

Sometimes, the most interesting part of an investigation isn’t the response itself, but what happens when you decide to follow it.

Meanwhile, the Human Pendulum session was taking place in the hallway, where several sensors had previously activated.

As questions were asked, one guest described feeling as though multiple hands were pushing and pulling him.

As guests took turns, one felt increasingly uncomfortable and eventually had to sit down. They described the experience as extremely intense.

With our time at Stanford House complete, we headed to our second location.

Ye Olde Salutation Inn

Our second location was Ye Olde Salutation Inn on Hounds Gate.

With its atmospheric rooms and caves beneath the building, it was the perfect setting for the second half of our investigation.

The Caves – Hartley Method

Deep in the darkness of the caves, we began using the Hartley Method.

As we called out, various responses appeared to relate to a highwayman and an incident involving someone being pushed down a well.

During these interactions, a young girl also appeared to come through. It was suggested that this could potentially have been Rosie.

We brought down Rosie’s favourite toy and placed sensors around it, asking if she could move one.

One of the motion sensors briefly activated.

Naturally, this caught everyone’s attention.

Was it a genuine interaction, or could there have been an environmental explanation?

We cannot say for certain, but it was certainly a fascinating moment.

Upstairs – The Man Who Drank

We continued upstairs with a general call-out session.

Various sensors were positioned around the room as we invited anything present to communicate with us.

During the session, we appeared to get interaction from a male presence. Cold fluctuations were noticed around the bell, while the responses seemed to reference happy memories of time spent at the inn.

When asked about his favourite drink, the response appeared to be whisky.

A man, a drink, whisky and a bell seemingly responding to our questions.

The interaction continued for almost five minutes before the bell suddenly remained silent.

Coincidence or communication?

This is exactly the kind of thing we love to explore.

We also attempted some scrying, with several people reporting seeing what appeared to be the features of an older man.

Free Time

We then gave our guests some free time to conduct their own investigations, revisit locations and try their own experiments.

A group of guests even braved the caves once again and reported further interesting activity.

After a night like this, there was certainly plenty to talk about.

Final Thoughts

From unexplained physical sensations and doors opening, to footsteps, sensor activations and a message telling us to go upstairs, it was a night filled with intriguing moments.

At the Salutation, we experienced responses that appeared to involve a highwayman and a young girl, followed by what seemed to be a consistent interaction with a male presence and a fondness for whisky.

We don’t claim that every experience has a paranormal explanation. Suggestion, environmental factors and coincidence must always be considered.

But there is something undeniably fascinating about standing inside an old building, unable to see everything happening around you, and suddenly experiencing something that takes you completely by surprise.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the night such a fantastic investigation.
