to the friend with the tired eyes

when they ask what it is
that you will do
with this one wild and precious life;
what you are doing, what you have done
you do not need to defend the space that you have taken up
or to show them your lists and your plans
to prove that you belong with them.

friend, may your one wild and precious life ring with the sound of laughter
and of rain on the window pane as you sip your tea;
may it be full of beautiful sights and views that take your breath away;
wind in your hair and sand in between your toes.
may you punctuate it with good books and music that soothes your soul, and days that will stay with you forever.
may you enjoy wonderful company and relish being in your own.

you have this one wild and precious heart,
an old soul
and a mind that thinks wonderful things;
may you nurture them for all your days.

“The grace of God means something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are, because the party wouldn’t have been complete without you. Here is the world: beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Nothing can ever separate us. It’s for you I created the universe. I love you. There’s only one catch: like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you’ll reach out and take it. Maybe being able to reach out and take it is a gift too”. Fredrick Beuchner

b e a u t y f o r t h e s a k e o f b e a u t y // I wrote this a little while ago - out of frustration, I think, for the echo chambers that we find ourself in, and just how easy it is to live a life without really having to walk alongside those that don’t look, sound, speak like us.

In all of the things that are to come in this big, beautiful life - I hope that our doors and tables and arms are open enough to find others to share it with too.

t w o y e a r s // two years have gone by since I’ve really posted on this account. Life has changed a lot: I took a little step out of churchy ministry work; I got married; I moved up to the North East (in 2020, but with the pandemic, what happened to that time?!).

Years ago when I started this account and all of the wonderful work that went alongside it, I had *so much* to say, and loads to put out into the world. It’s been a season in which my voice has felt a little bit quieter - but I just wanted to take a minute to check in, to say hello, to share some moments from the last couple of years and to dip my little toe back into the Instagram pool.

The site is down and I’ve not written in a while, but I have some thoughts and you can watch this space 👀

In the meantime I’d love to know about you - whether we connected ages ago or you’re new here. Who are you? Where are you? What’s life like for you right now? Drop me a comment to say hi ⤵️

c/w sexual abuse

Just a reminder that Russel Brand won’t see you defending him on social media, but your friends who have experienced sexual assault and abuse will.

What a horrific story. Love to all who need a bit extra today ❤️

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Makarios (blessed) then describes that joy which has its secret within itself, that joy which is serene and untouchable, and self-contained, that joy which is completely independent of all the chances and changes of life” - Barclay

And what does that joy mean for us? “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl… in the same way, let your light shine before others” Matthew 5
