to the friend with the tired eyes
when they ask what it is
that you will do
with this one wild and precious life;
what you are doing, what you have done
you do not need to defend the space that you have taken up
or to show them your lists and your plans
to prove that you belong with them.
friend, may your one wild and precious life ring with the sound of laughter
and of rain on the window pane as you sip your tea;
may it be full of beautiful sights and views that take your breath away;
wind in your hair and sand in between your toes.
may you punctuate it with good books and music that soothes your soul, and days that will stay with you forever.
may you enjoy wonderful company and relish being in your own.
you have this one wild and precious heart,
an old soul
and a mind that thinks wonderful things;
may you nurture them for all your days.
