Equally relevant in Castle Ward

Did you know that riding uninsured e-scooters, modified e-bikes and similar vehicles on UK roads and pavements is illegal?

While these vehicles can be seen as low-risk, riders are often uninsured, unprotected, inexperienced and capable of causing serious harm.

High speeds, instability and poor visibility increase the risk of serious injuries for both users and pedestrians.

Keep our roads and pavements safe, don't ride illegally.

Just reporting an telephoned alert that a councillor colleague has given me. Travellers have begun occupying the Park and Ride site in the Great Park. The Police are at the scene.

As temperatures soar outside of summer and extreme weather events become more common, it's clear we need a plan to keep vulnerable people safe and keep our country running.

Meet our Lord Mayor and Sheriff 👋

Cllr Henry Gallagher was yesterday selected to continue as Lord Mayor of Newcastle and the city’s ‘First Citizen’.

He represents the Dene and South Gosforth ward and begins a second year in post after his appointment was confirmed at yesterday’s Annual Meeting of Council.

Cllr Gallagher’s first year as Lord Mayor had a number of highlights capped by presenting Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe with Freedom of the City.

The Lord Mayor is an important diplomatic role leading certain commemorative events and celebrations, hosting civic functions and chairing meetings of the council.

Henry will be supported by newly appointed Sheriff and Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Alistair Chisholm, who is accompanied by his assistance dog Umber.

We wish the three of them the best of luck in the year ahead 🖤

Three more untaxed vehicles reported for removal. The Brunswick Industrial Estate hasn't been looked after for a long time. Looking forward the seeing some much needed action from all concerned to start getting it up to scratch.

Belated thanks to everyone who voted for me at this month's local election. I greatly appreciated your support and encouragement.
The hard work continues as I dedicate myself to repay the faith you have shown in me. I will be out and about on my bike and in my high vis much more now. There's always something that needs sorting.
If you have any local issues to report please get in touch - email [email protected] or send me a message via this page. Cheers. David

Untaxed vehicles should not be on a public road, particularly when the owners have notified the DVLA that theirs is no longer parked on one. I've just asked for these three to be removed from Brunswick Industrial Estate. There's more to come. My thanks to the businesses that have been in touch about this blight. If you know of any such vehicles in the ward, do message us.

A fair number of voters support Reform locally, but do they know who is raking in the money behind their encouragement? Time to re-consider such allegiance before it's too late.
