Today marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the end of the Second World War in Europe. We remember the 5 of our Scouts who died serving in the armed forces in WW2, along with all the victims of war locally and globally. You can read about our Scouts and the men of Porthill Parish who died during WW1 and WW2 here....

Our flags have been placed on display in St. Andrews Church until they are needed again! They were accepted by the Church on Mother's Day 2025, one of the days the Group traditionally attended church. They will serve as a reminder of the Group, alongside our War Memorial and Memorial Window. See the Gallery

It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of the Group. We've been unable to attract new Leaders and we don't have enough to safely continue. Added to this, our meeting place since 1909, St. Andrews Church Hall, is sadly being closed at the end of the year. We've been a part of Porthill's community for 116 years and we are proud to have played a part in thousands of young people's lives....

Today marks the end of an era for the Group, as our Cub and Scout Leaders, Sharon and Paul Hickton retire from their roles. Sharon and Paul have both been Leaders for over 40 years with Porthill (Sharon) and Bradwell and Porthill (Paul). Over that time, they will have seen hundreds of young people (maybe over a thousand?) join Scouting and, because of them, learn new skills, have great adventures and have a great deal of fun!...

The End of an Era

Today marks the end of an era for the Group, as our Cub and Scout Leaders, Sharon and Paul Hickton retire from their roles. Sharon and Paul have both been Leaders for over 40 years with Porthill (Sharon) and Bradwell and Porthill (Paul).
Over that time, they will have seen hundreds of young people (maybe over a thousand?) join Scouting and, because of them, learn new skills, have great adventures and have a great deal of fun!

The Group cannot express our debt at all they have done over the years and we wish them well for the future. However, they are not disappearing all together, but will be around to pass on their knowledge and wisdom and to help out on an occasional basis.

Sharon and Paul, thank you for everything you've done for all our young people and the Group as a whole. You'll be missed!
