We've joined the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities, a national programme delivered by the Centre for Ageing Better ✨

Newark and Sherwood District Council is working alongside other areas to improve local environments, so people can stay healthy, active, and independent as they age. We want to ensure everyone stays connected, enjoys life, and can access the support they need.

To do this, we need to understand what it’s like to age in our district, including what works well and what could be better. Feedback will help shape an action plan to make Newark and Sherwood a better place to grow older. Please take a few minutes to complete the Age-Friendly Communities survey and share your experiences, including the things you enjoy, places you go, and any challenges you face.

⌛ The survey will close on 30 September 2026.

We are also launching an Older Persons Forum later this year. By joining, you can:
• Share your experiences.
• Help us understand what ageing in the district is like.
• Shape future plans and improvements.

To join, email [email protected] or call 01636 650 000 and ask for the Health Improvement Team.

🚫 Fly-tipping can now cost you £1,000

From 1 October, the Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for fly-tipping in Newark and Sherwood will increase to £1,000.

Fly-tipping damages our environment, spoils local communities and costs money to clean up.

If you're paying someone to take away your waste, make sure you do it responsibly:

✅ Check they're a registered waste carrier
✅ Get a waste transfer note
✅ Keep a copy for your records

Click the link in our comments to find information on checking waste carrier licences, booking bulky waste collections and preventing fly-tipping on our website 👇

🕗Dusk closure now in place

Please note that with darker evenings returning, the car park at the end of Heron Way and the gates and car park at Coronation Street Playing Field will close at dusk each night. This helps ensure safety for park users and staff and protects the sites during darker evenings.

Please plan your visits accordingly as closing times will gradually become earlier as daylight continues to shorten, thank you for your co-operation.
