A series of events have been planned to mark Hate Crime Awareness Week, which runs from today until 17 October.

Residents and businesses who have experienced hate crime can seek support and report it anonymously.

The events include:

📍A stall with information about hate crime at Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, during office hours.

📍 A Hate Crime Advice Surgery at Raynes Park Library on Thursday 15 October between midday and 1pm.

📍 A stall outside Morden Tube Station on Thursday 15 October between 6.30am-10am

📍 Meet and Greet at New Horizon Centre, South Lodge Avenue, Pollards Hill on Thursday 15 October between 2pm-4pm.

🥈 Last weekend, we celebrated Merton finishing second in this year's TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools challenge at Morden Recreation Ground junior parkrun.

🤸 We were joined by Kelly Simm, former Team GB gymnast and Commonwealth medallist, who helped cheer on and inspire young people taking part.

Supporting young people to take part in events like the TCS Mini London Marathon is just one of the ways we're helping residents move more in London's .

🏃 If you know a young runner hoping to compete in next month's London Youth Games cross country event, they can use their junior parkrun times to qualify.

Help them join Merton's junior parkruns, taking place in Figges Marsh, Morden Rec and Wimbledon Park every Sunday, and submit their times by Wednesday 28 October.

It’s another action-packed week down at Mitcham Bandstand, with free and fun sessions to get active and keep babies and toddlers entertained. Here’s our full line up:

Saturday 3 October
10–11am – free exercise class with Our Parks
11.30–12.30pm – free capoeira with Arte Pura

Wednesday 7 October
10.30–11.30am – Reggae Babies, interactive baby and toddler music sensory class

We're aware of a minor gas leak identified by SGN at the junction of London Road and Crown Lane in Morden, outside the Civic Centre.

Our teams reported the issue to SGN this morning, who have already been down to investigate and have planned preventative works to resolve the situation.

We want to reassure residents and businesses that we will continue to communicate with SGN to ensure they resolve this issue as soon as possible.

You may notice some markings on the pavement where additional checks are needed, but the area is safe to travel through in the meantime.

Worried about a parent or loved one? The team at Merton's Falls Prevention Service can help. ❤️

This mighty little team support anyone at risk of a fall and helps them get back on their feet and feeling independent once more. 🚶🏾‍♂️‍➡️

Once they've got a referral, they will do a home visit to conduct a multi-factorial falls risk assessment and provide advice to help you reduce these risks.

Following this, they may be able to join the Staying Steady sessions at the Nelson Health Centre. This series of classes help learn useful exercises and become fitter.

Classes include educational sessions about how to manage the risk of falling, staying safe after a fall, and home support.

🌳 During October, you’re invited to join our volunteering days at Canons House and Grounds, helping to care for this much-loved green space.

Volunteers recently spent an afternoon getting Canons Pond looking its best, clearing weeds, sprucing up the surrounding area and discovering little critters along the way.

🍂 Volunteering in your local green space is a great way to meet new people, spend time outdoors and connect with nature.

We’re currently looking for volunteers to join us at Canons on Friday 16 October. All equipment and protective gear will be provided.

📢 There's colourful new seating and signage on Abbotsbury Road, Morden.

The design is part of the Festival of Architecture competition, commissioned by the council, and the winning design is called 'Morden Moments' by Studio Folk and . Art+Architectural Production 🙌

🌤️ The council is making improvements to brighten and refresh Morden town centre, ahead of planned longer-term regeneration.
