World Su***de Prevention Day is on Thursday 10 September and local New Dawn New Hope events are taking place on Sunday 13 September at Walkerburn and Coldingham Bay (see posters).

This year’s theme, Changing the Narrative on Su***de, encourages us to talk more openly and compassionately about su***de, challenge stigma and remind people that support is available.

In Scotland, children aged 2-5 (and not yet in school) are being offered the flu vaccine.

Given as a nasal spray, it’s quick and feels just like a tickle in their nose.

Starting university or college this year? You could be eligible for a free MenB vaccine.

We're running another MenB drop-in clinic on Friday (21 Aug). You may be eligible if:
• You were born between 1 March 2008 and 28 February 2009
• You were in S6 during the 2025/26 school year
• You are under 25 and entering first year at university in 2026/27
• You are under 25 and entering first year at college while living in shared accommodation

Letters have only been sent to those born between 1 March 2008 and 28 February 2009.

If you're eligible through any of the other groups listed above, please either come along to the drop-in clinic or contact the Vaccination Service on 01896 809250 to arrange an appointment.

MenB can cause serious illnesses including meningitis and septicaemia. Two doses, given at least four weeks apart, are needed for full protection.

Around a third of adults in the Borders are living with obesity, and a further third are overweight.

Supporting people to achieve and maintain a healthy weight is one of the ways we're delivering our Clinical Strategy and helping more people live healthier lives for longer.

We're working with partners across communities and services to support prevention, provide early help, improve access to support and treatment and create environments that make healthy choices easier.

By helping more people achieve and maintain a healthy weight, we can reduce the impact of obesity-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, improve wellbeing, and support a more sustainable health and care system.
