The Kent and Medway Domestic Abuse services support victim-survivors across our counties and campaigns to make it everyone's business to against this crime. The Kent and Medway Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Partnership is a collaboration between Kent County Council, Medway Council, the Kent Integrated Domestic Abuse Service (KIDAS), Medway Domestic Abuse Service (MDAS) Kent P

olice, Kent Police Crime Commissioner’s Office, NHS organisations, Kent Fire and Rescue, National Probation Service, Kent Surrey Sussex Community Rehabilitation, Local Councils and community safety partnerships. The group works together to meet shared goals, defined through the Kent and Medway Domestic Abuse Strategy 2020 – 2023, which sets out a joint vision, priorities and commitments. The overall aim is to reduce the prevalence of domestic abuse, and ensure that where domestic abuse takes place, all those affected get the right support, quickly.

Domestic abuse has no age limit. Older people may find it harder to recognise that what they are experiencing is abuse. It may be behaviour they've been subjected to by their partner for years. This could include economic abuse, being confined to a home setting and emotional and psychological abuse. Make it your mission to on World Elder Abuse Day. Some people suffer abuse from the family member they are caring for. It may pre-date their caring role, or caring can increase domestic abuse. It's complex. But there are signs to look out for. The person being cared for may:

- Be abusive, aggressive and/or use threatening/intimidating behaviour.
- Reject help and support from outside, limiting or not allowing for breaks.
- Refuse to be left alone during the day or night.
- Has financial control e.g. over property and living arrangements.
- Seeks to 'punish' because they are angry about their situation.
- Manipulates their carer emotionally.

It's not often talked about, which is why these carers can face additional barriers to disclosure and support. This let's help them get the support they need from the Kent and Medway support services. Visit www.domesticabuseservices.org.uk

This June, World Cup football fever will sweep across the nation. In Kent and Medway, we’re using this moment to encourage everyone, whether they’re a football fan or not, to support the goal to end domestic abuse.

Football itself is not the cause of domestic abuse, but research shows that rates increase when England plays. Whatever the score, people affected by domestic abuse suffer. Cases increase by 38% when England loses a match and 26% when they win or draw (Pathway Project, 14 June 2018).

We’ve created dedicated social media content and posters for you to share to help everyone during this time, in addition to our June campaign content.

By sharing the content on your social media channels and in your newsletters, you will help spread the word so that everyone can Know, See, Speak Out about domestic abuse:

▪️ KNOW more about domestic abuse by undertaking training.
▪️ SEE what action you can take, such as sharing our campaigns.
▪️ SPEAK OUT by signposting people to services.

Find the World Cup content toolkit at www.domesticabuseservices.org.uk/practitioners/take-action-to-end-da (link inn bio)

We're proud to partner with Kent FA on this campaign.

Abuse is about power and control, which can exist in any relationship. LGBTQ+ people can often have their sexuality and gender identity used against them as a tactic of domestic abuse, and face barriers to finding support, such as:

▪ Threats of 'outing' or losing ties to LGBTQ+ spaces.
▪ Thinking help isn’t available or services might not be supportive.
▪ Being told the myth that abusive behaviour is ‘normal’ in LGBTQ+ relationships.
▪ Not recognising abuse from family members as domestic abuse.

The Kent and Medway support services offer specialist help for our LGBTQ+ community, they are here for you.

Domestic abuse severely impact a person's mental health. It can lead to fear, loneliness, anxiety, depression, PTSD and sometimes, feeling like there is no escape. For the past two years, more victims of domestic abuse have died by su***de than were killed by their abusive partners. In Kent and Medway, a third of suspected su***des (33%) were impacted by domestic abuse. Support services are here to help anyone affected by abuse build the safe life they deserve and heal from trauma. Help ensure no one is overlooked this .
