Hi! Could I ask a favour for Watchtree Nature Reserve, we are organising a cycle event which passes through Allonby and we need a photograph of the Mile 21 fortlet.
Do you have one we could use?

Hello,

I wonder if you can help me please? I would like to get in touch with Friends of Allonby Greens but haven't been able to find an email address/number.

I set up a litter champions group in St Bees and I am also on the parish council there, and we are interested in the noticeboard that they have created for how long it takes for litter to decompose. If you are able to provide an email address or forward my email on to them that would be great. Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,
Amy

Allonby Shipbreaking

The hulls of old wooden ships were towed to Allonby from various ports to be broken up as scrap. The tug would steam to shore at full speed with the hull in tow and then the tow line would be cut allowing the hull to beach itself on the high tide line.
The children of the village were given a day off school for these events, in fact most of the village turned out.

Does anyone recognize the faces in these photos?

Allonby Sports Day we think 1920-30. Donated to the Maryport Maritime Museum by Elizabeth James who was the daughter of Richard Gate, he had the Gents outfitters in upper Senhouse St, near the town hall. Mr Gate's father we think could have made some of the hats.

Comments welcome.

Hi there.
I just wanted to contact someone about the latest Covid 19 situation in and around Allonby. We are based in Suffolk, 20 mins from Cambridge. Myself and family are due to holiday in Glen Cottage in Allonby as from 8th August. We want to know, from a local point of view, how the community would feel about tourists visiting and staying? We are struggling with what decision to make, do we cancel or still visit?
If the area is under control and the local community are dubious about outsiders visiting, we are more than happy to respect those wishes. I know things can change very quickly, it's all so challenging. We just want to do the right thing by Allonby and it's people.

Would never of thought that by 12.30pm on the first day of the season I would have the smell of wild Solway sea trout on my hands
