The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Legion membership ensures that Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten, and that the ex-Service community has a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye. The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy. Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today. 🌺 Thank You for Your Support

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Poppy Appeal and joined us in marking Remembrance Day.

Our Poppy Stall raised £2,749.48 so a huge thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered, and to all the staff at the Co-Op.

Overall we raised an impressive £4,411.95 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2025.

Your generous donations help provide vital support to members of the Armed Forces community, past and present. Your presence and participation ensure that the sacrifices made by so many are never forgotten. Together, we honour the memory of those who gave their lives and stand alongside those who continue to serve.

Your kindness and commitment make a real difference, and we are deeply grateful for the compassion shown by our community.

A big THANK YOU to John Clarke for over 40 years service as Standard Bearer for our local branch. Just before the VJ Day 80 Remembrance last week he handed over the Standard to our new bearer, Derek, pictured together here. John remains a popular branch member and will continue to look after our upcoming Poppy Appeals.

Remembering VJ Day – 80 Years On - Friday 15th August

🕊Victory over Japan Day

As the fighting ended in Europe in May 1945, Allied troops in the east were still engaged in fierce warfare.

VJ Day marks the anniversary of 15 August 1945 when Japan announced its surrender to the Allied forces.

The surrender was met with relief and celebration that after six long years the Second World War was finally over.
