Present day is fast moving, with instant access to information and ever changing technology, there is no getting away from the fast pace of life. I am inspired by the lifestyles of the 20th Century whereby all aspects of life appeared to be enjoyed at a slower pace. Handmade products have a certain quality about them, that show imperfections and uniqueness which allows one to reflect their own per
sonality and identity. We are leaning more as a country to old values and traditions. The infamous wartime slogan ‘Make do and mend’ and its values are as relevant today as they were during the days of rationing and digging for victory. Tips were offered by the Ministry of Information on how to refresh and revive old clothes. During wartime Briton, clothes and materials were in short supply. Using the ‘make do and mend’ ethos, when clothes wore out, people would make them into something else or repair them. The inspiration behind my handmade crafts use the same principles, by utilizing old clothes and materials and transforming them into new exciting designs. Each of my designs are totally unique. Whether it is the material, pattern, texture or the finishing touch of decorative buttons. Every piece uses either recycled or vintage remnants or old damaged clothes, which are carefully sourced from vintage/charity shops, car boots, antique fairs and online.
