The NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is inviting local people to share their views on new same day GP appointments now available across Leicestershire.

Since 1 April 2026, patients registered with GP practices in Leicestershire have been able to access same day GP appointments during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The new service offers longer appointments, consistent opening hours across the county, and appointments are mainly booked through NHS 111 for urgent but non life-threatening health needs.

New guidance has been released to help families manage screen time for children under five.

After hearing from parents who wanted clearer advice on what’s appropriate and how to build healthy habits, the government has shared some practical tips:

👶 Under 2s: Avoid screen time, except for shared activities that support bonding, interaction, and conversation.
🧒 Ages 2–5: Try to limit screen time to no more than one hour a day. Avoid screens at mealtimes and in the hour before bedtime.
📺 Content matters: Choose slow-paced, age-appropriate programmes. Avoid fast-paced, social media-style videos and AI-based toys or tools.
👨‍👩‍👧 Watch together: Co-viewing—talking, asking questions, and engaging with what’s on screen—is much more beneficial than children watching alone.

From 1 April 2026, patients registered with GP practices in Leicestershire will have access to new same‑day GP appointments during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. These appointments will offer longer consultation times and provide more consistent availability across the county, helping people get the right care quickly for urgent but non‑life‑threatening health needs.

These new appointments will replace urgent care centre services previously provided in Coalville, Enderby, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Lutterworth and Melton.

The NHS is asking for your support to help raise awareness of the changes and encouraging local people to share their views through a short questionnaire available after Easter.
