Following the recent seizure of several electric bikes and scooters across Wrexham Rural it has been suggested that there is a lack of awareness or education surrounding their usage. Misconceptions arise as many are openly sold in shops without warning and are often seen being used in public.

They are defined as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and therefore require insurance and a driving licence in order to be used on a public road or public place. Presently, it is not possible to obtain valid road insurance for the majority of privately owned e-bikes and e-scooters.

Using one on a public road or place may result in it being seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. In order to have a vehicle returned you are required to bring proof of ownership, a drivers licence and a certificate of insurance to a police station. In most cases this is not possible and the vehicle is unable to be released.

Some electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs) are lawful provided they meet specific regulations however if in doubt seek advice before taking one to any public roads or places.

Over the weekend, PCSO Sarah and PCSO Enya ran a successful bike marking event at Ruabon Village Hall ๐Ÿšฒ

This event helps people protect their bikes with anti-tamper stickers which each have a unique QR code. This code links back to the owner so that your bike can be returned to you if it is stolen or goes missing.

Thank you to everyone who attended , along with the Mayor and Council for their support ๐Ÿ™Œ

If you missed this event and wish to get your bike marked, we have another event at Ty Mawr Country Park on Thursday 28th of May at 10:00am ๐Ÿ“… See you there!

North Wales Police is supporting Operation Sceptre, a national anti-knife crime initiative, with a week of action by encouraging residents to dispose of unwanted knives safely through designated amnesty bins. Knife crime across North Wales remains low compared to other parts of the country, but officers remain committed to proactive prevention work.

Sergeant Claire Parry, community safety officer at North Wales Police, said: "We want people to think twice, make the right choice, and use this week as an opportunity to hand in any unwanted knives or weapons. Together, with our partners and communities, we can stop knives from ruining lives."

An amnesty bin is available at Wrexham police station and additional bins have been placed at the recycling centres in Wrexham (Bryn Lane, Lodge House, Plas Madoc)
