In between housing appointments and Exec Committee meetings (still getting my head around processes and how it all works), I realised why people become Councillors. It’s because they do delightful things at lunch time like play giant Connect 4, chat with friendly residents and scoff prawn vol-au-vonts & cheesy puffs - this job was a GREAT choice 😍 Thanks for the invite to Wythenshawe Forum for your Age Without Limits day Wythenshawe Age Friendly Network, great to see the fabulous work you do and meet some of the people you bring together. That retro buffet complete with cheesy hedgehogs, party rings and Black Forest gateau was perfection 👌🏻

Could I ask : Do you like - and would you like to see more - videos of what issues I come across as a new Cllr, what problems I see which are going unaddressed and the challenges I feel residents face? I feel like I want to share them, whilst also being mindful of privacy and GDPR, and would value your thoughts x

On a(nother) training session last night and they are actually very good. This one was all about Cllrs and social media. Sneakily during it I had to multi-task this week’s on-the-hoof snacks with some yellow sticker pork mince - Sausage rolls YUM 😋

I’ve listened to a number of podcasts about this public enquiry and heard these families speak of the tragedies wrought on them, and it only serves to underline what have been my thoughts on the UK for many years - that a sea change is needed to bring accountability back into our institutions, councils, organisations and public services. For so long, when things go terribly wrong (and let’s face it they shouldn’t in the first place) nothing is done apart from “lessons are learned”. And we all know that’s just BS. No-one takes responsibility for anything anymore, drives me mad in everyday life, but for families like these, the results are catastrophic.

HORRIFIC. These are are the crazed, deranged, vicious men that successive governments are importing into the UK without a care for their citizens. How many more people have to be murdered, r***d, attacked and brutalised before we finally get a Government with the political will to stop the flow, reverse the numbers and deport those who’ve taken advantage of our pathetic border ‘system’? I hope the person attacked in Belfast last night recovers, it’s virtually impossible to imagine the trauma both physically and mentally for them and their loved ones, and these people involved.

You might not think these are in any way relevant to your lives, these buried in the background loans and deals. But they are. They matter. They skew the market, inflate the prices of rent & houses, create a culture of favouritism and make elected officials think they are some kind of business whizzes. Which they are absolutely bloody not.

Taxpayer funds were put at risk in lending scheme backed by Mayor of Greater Manchester

It's an absolute scandal. I've been involved in the Manchester property world for years and it was blatantly obvious to so many of us that favourites and special treatment abounded. What reward did the taxpayer get for loaning all those hundreds of millions out to developers? From 2010 to 2024 we were told in Manchester there was NO MONEY. No money for libraries, no money for swimming pools, no money for kids facilities, no money for social homes, no money for parks, no money for heritage buildings. What a load of tosh that was.

Here is my other half at a charity do in Manchester during the Blair years. Cherie was prised from his arm, the indentations lasted for hours. How different things might have been had he had a soft spot for bossy brunettes, Tony might have been facing that Prime Ministerial journey alone 😆
