Last week, our Chair, Professor Tony Warne, visited Gaskell House, home to our Manchester Specialist Psychotherapy Service, Eating Disorders Service and Psychosexual Service.

During the visit, Tony met with colleagues from across the services, learned more about the support they provide and heard about innovative work taking place to improve access to care, including the Eating Disorders Service's assessment week initiative.

Tony also toured the library at Gaskell House, which serves as both a learning resource for clinicians and a group therapy space, and discussed the challenges and opportunities facing specialist psychological services with colleagues.

Reflecting on the visit, Tony said: “As always, this was a very informative visit and a great opportunity to find out more about this specialist service. I was impressed with the eating disorder assessment initiative, which on day one had already had a great take up from people using these services. Our discussion made me feel as if I was coming home, so many thanks for colleagues making the time to speak with me. I was also able to donate a number of textbooks to their library.”

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and showcase the important work taking place at Gaskell House.

This Month of Hope, we're proud to shine a spotlight on GMMH colleagues making a difference in their communities.

In Greater Manchester, more than 200 lives are lost to su***de each year. Month of Hope encourages us all to challenge stigma, have open conversations and share messages of hope.

As part of this year's events:

More than 40 runners inspired by su***de prevention took part in the Wigan 10K. Our Su***de Prevention Lead, Lisa, along with colleagues from our Wigan mental health service, Wigan Council, SWAN Primary Care Network, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, and We Are With You are raising money and awareness for Samaritans and Survivors of Bereavement by Su***de (SOBS).

One of our trainee advanced clinical practioners, Mark, has been supporting Bolton's Walks of Hope, helping bring people together through connection, conversation and community.

There are many events taking place across Greater Manchester throughout the month, including remembrance vigils, memory walks and opportunities to learn more about su***de prevention.

To find out more and view upcoming events, search Greater Manchester’s Month of Hope 2026.

Greater Manchester's Month of Hope runs from 10 September to 10 October 💛

It's a time to raise awareness of su***de, encourage open conversations, and remind everyone that we all have a role to play in su***de prevention while sharing messages of hope.

Throughout the month, a range of events will take place across Greater Manchester, including vigils of remembrance that provide an opportunity to come together and honour those lost to su***de. There will also be both in-person and virtual events to mark ***dePreventionDay.

Join the conversation and help us change the narrative around su***de.

"It was an honour to be part of this project, being one of the co-curators, representing my heritage and culture."

A huge thank you to everyone involved! 💙

Thinking about buying medication online?

Your safety is our priority.

If your pain medication is being reduced, you may be tempted to buy medication online or from a friend or dealer. However, illicit tablets can contain harmful substances and may have serious or even life-threatening consequences.

If you're worried about changes to your medication or managing pain, speak to your healthcare provider about safe alternatives and support available through your GP or local substance misuse services.

Stay safe and never purchase medication from unregulated sources💙

We're proud to be recognised for our commitment to the Armed Forces community!

GMMH has successfully retained our NHS Veteran Aware accreditation and achieved the Bronze Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Award (ERS), demonstrating our continued commitment to supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families.

Building on our original accreditation in 2021, we've continued to strengthen our Veteran Aware approach across the Trust through a range of initiatives, including:

- Establishing the GMMH Armed Forces Working Group
- Creating the Microsoft Teams Armed Forces Network
- Developing our Five-Year Armed Forces Plan
- Expanding resources through the GMMH Armed Forces Hub
- Srengthening partnerships with organisations including the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) and Op COURAGE, the Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service
- Promoting the national ASK Campaign, encouraging NHS staff to ask patients whether they or an immediate family member have served in the UK Armed Forces
- Increasing Armed Forces training opportunities for staff through links with the National Armed Forces Training and Education Programme (NTEP)

We're incredibly proud of this recognition and remain committed to improving awareness, understanding and support for the Armed Forces community across our Trust.

A big thank you to our colleagues and partners who continue to champion this important work!💜

A little Manchester rain couldn't stop us from joining the Manchester Village Pride Parade alongside our NHS colleagues from across Greater Manchester.

It was a fantastic day celebrating equality, inclusion and diversity, while showing our commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ staff, service users, carers and families.

Our Chief Executive, Chris Oliver, said:

"Pride is important to me because everyone deserves to feel able to be themselves, at work, in healthcare and in life. It's a celebration of how far we've come as a community, but a reminder of why visibility, inclusion and belonging still matter."

Thank you to everyone who marched with us and helped make the day so special! 💙
