Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, we’re proud to stand alongside our colleagues, tenants and communities to raise awareness, promote acceptance, and celebrate the individuality of Autism. We’ve been wearing blue and, more importantly, sharing the personal stories behind why this day matters to us.
For some, it’s about being a parent, navigating years of advocacy to ensure their child is heard, supported and understood. It’s seeing first-hand the challenges autism and ADHD can bring in everyday life, but also the incredible resilience, determination and growth that comes with the right support. It’s celebrating achievements that may look different to others but mean everything.
For others, it’s about family, supporting a loved one with complex needs to find a safe, stable home where they can truly belong. It’s understanding, on a personal level, just how life-changing the right environment can be, and why consistency, security and care matter so deeply.
And for some, it’s about the small, everyday moments, loving someone for exactly who they are. It’s the late-night phone calls, the unique interests, the kindness and humour they bring, and the challenges they face in a world that doesn’t always understand them. It’s also seeing the importance of protecting and supporting those who may be more vulnerable, while celebrating everything they achieve in their own way.
These stories remind us that awareness goes far beyond the workplace it’s personal, it’s emotional, and it’s part of our everyday lives.
As a social housing provider, we know how important it is to create spaces where people feel safe, supported and valued. Today reinforces why we do what we do, not just as professionals, but as people and family.
Because everyone deserves not only a place to call home, but a community that understands and celebrates them.
