Today we heard the shock announcement that Government has ‘paused’ its Local Government Reorganisation plans.

Councils were forced to fall into line with a diktat from government, so we pushed on, diligently making plans, prioritising LGR above most other activities and spending money we don’t have.

It’s a shambolic way to govern which makes it difficult for councils and councillors to operate under, and shows us little to no respect.

Today’s announcement, and the discussion which followed, lacked detail and clarity. For example, we know that elections in May 2027 will be to District Councils, but we don’t know the term councillors will be elected for.

Government needs to get a grip.

Plans for major overhaul of councils halted

Proposals to merge smaller councils to form larger authorities have been paused or withdrawn in a number of areas.

Well said Hilary, disgraceful behaviour condoned from the podium by Nigel Farage to a cacophony of ‘boring’.

I am yet to see a statement from ‘The Women of Reform’.

I’m really proud to be playing an instrumental role in our brand new LGA Green Group as lead Green Party of England and Wales councillor on the cross party LGA Children, Young People and Families Committee.
It’s great to be part of this powerful, ambitious and articulate group of amazing councillors.

Schools are back and so is the Bike Bus, sporting a brand new flag funded from my Malvern Hills District Council ward budget.
We’re gearing up for Bike to School Week in October with plans to launch more bike buses. Scan the QR Codes on the flyer to request a ‘Bus Stop’ and join us on WhatsApp.
