A teenage girl once trapped in a cycle of danger is now looking ahead to college and independence.

Kent Violence Reduction Unit works with Catch22 to support young people facing exploitation and other safeguarding risks.

A trusting relationship with her Catch22 worker helped bring her safely home during a time she had gone missing and gave her the confidence to be open and talk.

With support, she recognised she had been a victim of exploitation, started putting her own wellbeing first, and stayed in education. Planning for college is now underway.

Last week, around 20 girls a day from four schools in Maidstone took part in KP Courtside, a four-day netball bootcamp.

Alongside the netball, girls met women from Kent Police, including our VRU team, and partner organizations, and learned about the different roles women play in policing and beyond.

They also took part in sessions on women's health, first aid, and how to report a crime. Throughout the day, these young women picked up valuable and useful skills which can be useful in everyday life.

It's brilliant to see young people given the confidence and knowledge to ask questions, learn new things, and discover the range of careers open to them. Well done to everyone who took part – we were proud to be a part of it!

⚽ The World Cup is here but don't wait for it to kick off.

When a situation begins to get out of hand, it's easy to look the other way.

Being an active bystander means stepping up safely and it's a skill our children can learn too.

This summer, talk to your children about how to:

👀 Clock it - notice when something isn't right
🤔 Check it - is it safe to act? how can i help?
💪 Change it - speak up, step in or get help from an adult

They don't have to be a hero. They just have to act and it starts with the conversations we have at home.
