Last week marked Child Safety Week, an annual campaign dedicated to helping families build the skills needed to manage everyday risks and protect children from serious harm, while still giving them the freedom to learn and grow.

To continue empowering families even after the campaign, Child Accident Prevention Trust has compiled a pack for parents and carers with bite-sized facts and safety tips on various accident risks to children. Access and download it here: https://capt.org.uk/resources/parents-pack/

In a national response to the Independent Review of Children's Social Care, the government is changing how children's services work across the country.

The changes focus on:

- supporting families earlier
- making services clear and easy to understand
- improving outcomes for children
- working closely with parents, carers and guardians

We want to ensure these changes make life easier for local families. To have your say and have your voice heard in preparation for these changes, families are invited to attend small focus groups to share their opinions. These sessions are taking place across our Windsor and Riverside Family Hubs on 9 and 12 June, respectively.

It's currently National Smile Month.

Looking after your mouth is about more than having nice teeth. It affects daily life in many ways. It can change how people eat, speak and smile. It can also affect confidence and comfort. To help our community with oral health, we're highlighting support and advice that can lead to long-term benefits.

Today, we're focusing on oral health during pregnancy. Did you know that dental check-ups as well as treatments are free for pregnant women and for a whole year after your baby's birth?

Starting school is a big step for children and parents alike. 🎒🍏

Preparing for school isn’t about ticking off a checklist. It’s about small steps, practised together, that build confidence over time and help children feel secure and prepared for when they start school, in their own way and at their own pace.

As the Windsor and Maidenhead Family Hub Service finishes the ketamine awareness campaign, the final message covers the importance of not getting stuck in the cycle. While ketamine might feel like a temporary escape, the long-term impact on your bladder and brain isn't a game. If things are starting to feel out of control, you don't have to figure it out alone.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with using ketamine and want more information or support, contact the Family Hub Team: https://rbwm.afcinfo.org.uk/talkwithus - the advice given is confidential.

For more about the risks associated with various substances, visit: http://rbwm.afcinfo.org.uk/knowingtherisk

This Youth Violence Awareness Week, empower your community to lead with kindness, and don't follow the crowd.

Take part in a simple but powerful pledge against all forms of youth violence. Write your pledge: "We stand as voices against all violence” and share it with the Windsor and Maidenhead Family Hub Service. Anyone can take part.

To participate, take a photo holding your pledge, ensuring no faces are showing (hands or posters only). Send your photo to: [email protected] by 5pm on 21 May - we will share the pledges on our social media platforms.
