Lydiate Parish Council is pleased to continue supporting the Meadows Memory Café at Lydiate Village Centre.

Following a very positive first session, the next café will take place
on:

Friday 5th June, 2pm–4pm, and will continue on the first Friday of each month.

Delivered in partnership with Meadows Homecare, Home from Home Sefton, and the Alzheimer's Society, the café provides a warm, welcoming and supportive space for people living with memory difficulties, together with their families and carers.

Alongside activities, refreshments and conversation, it also offers an opportunity for carers and relatives to meet others in similar situations, share experiences, and access local support in an informal and friendly setting.

The Memory Café is free of charge, although booking is essential.

We look forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces from across the community.

As a Parish Council we are working collaboratively with the Archdiocese of Liverpool and Friends of Lydiate Abbey. Our current priority is to seek funding for a major conservation plan for St Catherine’s Chapel (Lydiate Abbey) The Archdiocese are currently waiting for the required quotes and then with the assistance of Historic England we will be making bids to access funds. Most of the funds will hopefully come from the National Lottery Heritage fund but it will be important as part of a successful bid to show strong community interest, engagement and funding. We will do this by supporting the Friends of Lydiate Abbey activity and fundraising.
This Saturday starting at 15:00, the start of a Bank Holiday weekend a fundraising event for Friends of Lydiate Abbey is being held outside at the Scotch Piper. Live music will be from Scotch on the Rocks, plus there will be a raffle and a burger van. Hopefully some sunshine too!

It is disappointing to report Anti Social Behaviour at St Catherine’s Chapel (Lydiate Abbey). The herras fencing that is in place due to the structure of the remains being unsafe has been torn down. Stones have been moved in addition to litter and what looks like fresh graffiti on the entrance. Not sure exactly when this occurred but over the past few days at some point. If anyone has any further information please call the Police 101 and report using reference number 26000351259.
As a Council we are working closely with Friends of Lydiate Abbey and the Archdiocese of Liverpool to protect and conserve our precious heritage. We are in discussions with Historic England to get the site listed “at risk” that will hopefully unlock the required funding
to implement the necessary safety improvements and conservation plan.
We really could do without this.
The Council team will assess the immediate requirements to repair the fence. I’m the meantime please be reminded that the structure is not safe.
