Today marks 10 years since the tragic murder of Jo Cox MP.

Jo dedicated her life to public service, standing up for her constituents and championing the values of compassion, respect and community. Her words, "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us," continue to resonate today.

As we remember Jo, we also reflect on the importance of bringing people together, treating one another with dignity, and rejecting hatred, division and political violence in all its forms.

In Luton, a town built on diversity and community spirit, we are proud to stand for those values. We remember Jo Cox, honour her legacy, and reaffirm our commitment to building a kinder, fairer and more united society.

Liberal Democrats have always stood up for people facing human rights abuses, whether locally, nationally, or internationally.

Luton is home to a large Kashmiri community, many of whom came to the UK in the 1950s and 1960s to help rebuild and power Britain's industries after the Second World War. Their families remain deeply connected to events affecting communities in Kashmir today.

Residents have recently approached Luton Liberal Democrats with concerns about reports of deaths, injuries, restrictions on communications, shortages of essential supplies, and the detention of individuals during unrest in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

In response, the Liberal Democrat councillor group has written to the Pakistan High Commission to raise these concerns. Earlier today, Liberal Democrat councillors joined colleagues from Labour and the Conservative Party in a cross-party delegation to present a written resolution calling for restraint, respect for human rights, the protection of civilians, and a peaceful resolution to the current situation.

This is not about politics. It is about supporting fundamental human rights, the rule of law, freedom of expression, and the protection of innocent people. We stand with all those calling for dialogue, de-escalation, and a peaceful path forward.

We are delighted to be informed that work will begin in Ashcroft Park next month with completion expected in August. Wouldn't it be great if it would incorporate a Community Centre for Stopsley too! What do people think?

| We’re aware that some people have raised concerns about a low-flying aircraft over Luton.

We are currently dealing with an incident in the Ashcroft Road area, which is being supported by the National Police Air Service, which is using a fixed-wing aircraft.

We hope this clears up any confusion, and would ask people not to call 999 about this unless it is a genuine emergency. Thank you.

Another great Action Day for Luton Liberal Democrats. Thanks as ever for all your ongoing support.

Today, the Liberal Democrats held an Action Day in Saints Ward. The Saints team visited Neville Road to speak with residents about their concerns regarding speeding near Sainsbury’s.

We listened to local people, and will be taking these concerns to the Council. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us.

The Liberal Democrats are committed to working with residents all year round to make our communities safer and stronger.

Another Minister gone! That's two senior ministers within weeks. It's beginning to look like disgraced Johnson's final days! What a mess!

This is a wake-up call for Starmer and Burnham.

Stop repeating the mistakes of the Conservatives and get serious about funding our armed forces properly.

We cannot afford years more political chaos while our national security is put at risk.

(From Bedfordshire Police)

Nineteen years ago today, PC 5584 Jon Henry made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the public in Luton town centre.

At 7am on 11 June 2007, PC Henry began his shift with his trademark enthusiasm, as he had done many times before.

By 7.18am, he had been fatally stabbed while shielding others from harm – a selfless act of bravery that cost him his life.

Today, we honour Jon for the man and police officer he was.

His sacrifice reminds us of the risks our officers face to keep people safe, and his courage and commitment will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts remain with his family, friends and all those who worked alongside him.

To mark this anniversary, Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst will lead a minute’s silence at PC Henry’s memorial stone on George Street at 11am today (Thursday).
