This shows the importance of having a visible security system 📸
Most burglaries are committed by opportunistic thieves who will search a neighbourhood for homes or outbuildings that look empty or dark, especially homes with access to back gardens. And after receiving some reports of burglaries/attempted burglaries across the district recently, we’d like to remind you of steps you can take to make your properties more secure:
🔒Lock up before you head out – double check doors and windows, even if you’re leaving for a short time.
💡Dusk-to-dawn’ sensor security lighting is a great way of making sure the front of your home or shed/outbuilding is well-lit, which can deter thieves.
🚨Visible burglar alarms or doorbell cameras can make burglars think twice; get specialist advice and consult your insurance company.
🐕🦺‘Beware of the dog’ signs can act as a strong deterrent, even if the household doesn’t have one- thieves tend not to want to risk it.
🪟It’s often reported that back doors/windows have been smashed to give burglars access to your home- remove flowerpots and other heavy objects from near your backdoor to limit the potential tools they can use to do this.
🛠️In your sheds/garages, mark your items and take photographs of them. Some tools can be painted with your name or postcode and forensic marking is also an option.
👀Remain vigilant – look out for any suspicious activity and report anything that seems out of place. The more we know, the more we can piece together a picture of potential offenders.
