Closure!

Engineers from Taylors Bell Foundry will be working in the carillon on the morning of Thursday 11 June, The museum will be closed during this activity. The recital will go ahead between 1 and 2pm and the museum will re-open at 2pm.

Decision due on creating new town and parish councils:

Key points summary

Decision pending: Charnwood Borough councillors will meet on 15 June 2026 to decide whether to create:

• A new town council for Loughborough
• A new parish council

Background:

The proposals follow community governance reviews with over 500 consultation responses, which showed support.

Council details: (Broadnook will also become a parish).

• Loughborough:
• 25 councillors
• Based on current borough wards
• Initially created as a parish council, expected to become a town council
What these councils could do:
Provide local services such as parks, community centres, street lighting, transport schemes, and events.

Next steps:
Councillors will consider the recommendations and governance orders.
If approved:

Councils would come into effect on 1 April 2027
Elections held in May 2027

Some services or assets may transfer from the borough council, but no decisions have been made.

Watching the pomp and ceremony I learned that the cap accompanies the heavy crown and stabilises the crown when it’s on. Love the symbols and the Yeoman with their lanterns preceding the King. Just in case there is a repeat of Guy Fawkes.
