๐Ÿšจ SHOUT ๐Ÿšจ

Between 19:00โ€“22:00 last night, the on-call firefighters at Lostwithiel Community Fire Station responded to three incidents, one involving an E-Bike lithium-ion battery fire.

Lithium-ion batteries are increasingly common โ€” and when they fail, they can be extremely dangerous. Please take a moment to review this important safety advice:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Tips

โ€ข Avoid overcharging โ€” never leave batteries charging unattended, overnight, or while you are asleep.
โ€ข Use the correct charger โ€” always use the original charger or a certified replacement from a reputable supplier.
โ€ข Charge safely โ€” place batteries on a hard, flat surface so heat can disperse. Avoid charging on beds, sofas, or carpets.
โ€ข Keep exits clear โ€” never charge e-bikes or e-scooters in hallways or bedrooms where they could block escape routes.
โ€ข Check for damage โ€” look out for swelling, leaking, overheating, or bulging. If you notice any of these signs, stop using the battery immediately.
โ€ข Store correctly โ€” keep batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
โ€ข Dispose responsibly โ€” never place lithium batteries in household rubbish or recycling bins. Take them to a Household Waste Recycling Centre or approved recycling point.
โ€ข Test your smoke alarms โ€” make sure alarms are working on every floor and near charging areas.

๐Ÿš’ If a Battery Fire Starts
Lithium-ion battery fires can spread rapidly and produce toxic smoke. Get out immediately, close the door behind you if possible, and call 999. Do NOT attempt to tackle the fire yourself.

Please stay safe and share this advice โ€” it could prevent a serious incident.

We were called along with Bodmin Community Fire Station and Lostwithiel Community Fire Station to a large garage fire in Lanivet.

Upon arrival our crews tackled the fire from the roadside whilst crews from Bodmin and lostwithiel wore BA (breathing apparatus) and tackled from the opposite side.

Good progress was made by all to extinguish the fire.

Sunday the 28th of September 2025 from 12pm

Please share far and wide.

To my lovely friends and community, l have felt your love, your kind heartfelt thoughts and your sorrow. I have a mountain to climb and knowing that each and everyone of you are on this terrible journey with me, willing me on, gives me great comfort.

Our very own Lostwithiel fire fighters were the first to attend , how brave and magnificent are they , it breaks my heart to know what they had to witness and deal with and for that l will be eternally grateful to each and everyone of them .

The reason for my post is that our little lce cream shop needs to be put to bed for this year and it has given me some joy to think that with the stock left and lce cream so kindly donated by Treleavens, gives us the opportunity to raise funds for the Firefighters Charity, which among other things, supports our brave first responders with mental health welfare .

I ask that you come and have a free ice cream, a milkshake a good old fashioned cup of tea and throw a donation into the tub , l want this to be a happy helpful day, my gorgeous little team of staff will be waiting for you including Rosie and my lovely daughter Emily .

There will be no sadness , just respect , we would love to hear stories about George and Kyle if you have them.....
Bring your children , let them do their own sprinkles , sauce , chose fancy cones , flakes, fudges sticks, the children of this town are very special to me.

Our very brave fire fighters will be there to shake your hands and Georges and Kyle friends will be shaking buckets and l hope to be there, l can't promise but l am asking that you make this the very best day for our Firefighters that put themselves in danger time and time again to protect our loved ones .

We can take cash or card donation for our fire fighters.

Amanda
Georges Mum now and forever .
