REFUGEE SCHEME: Lancashire County Council intends to quit government refugee scheme.
Lancashire county Council intends to become the first in history to withdraw from the government's refugee resettlement scheme. The Reform UK led council promises to 'put British people first' and intends to pull out of the UK resettlement scheme, launched in 2021 by the Conservative Government, to provide newly–arrived legal refugees with housing, healthcare, education and employment support.
Cllr Joshua Roberts (Reform UK) said the refugee scheme has forced the authority to place the needs of those just arrived in the country ahead of long–term residents.
"Cash on arrival. Welcome packs. Utility bills paid. GP registration sorted. Benefits set up for them. Yet our veterans are sleeping on the streets. Local families can't get a home. And our residents are left to figure it all out on their own."

CURRENT REFUGEE BENEFIT PACKAGE (funded by taxpayers):
£1500 PER OCCUPANT (for furniture, tv's etc)
FAMILY OF 10 REFUGEES = £15,000 GIVEN ON ARRIVAL
PLUS ... help and support with bills, translators, benefits, doctor and dentist.

The move would mean that Lancashire County Council no longer resettle refugees that have arrived in Britain under the UK Resettlement Scheme, and the Afghan Resettlement Programme.
Support for Ukrainian refugees will remain in place.
