🌹🚨 EREWASH LABOUR: COUNCIL UPDATE 🚨🌹

2025 is going to be a big year. Since we took control just under two years ago, there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes fixing the mess the Tories caused. Now, we’ve been hard at work, and there’s some really great stuff underway you’ll start seeing this year.

šŸ’·šŸ“ˆ In 2024, we set Erewash’s first balanced council budget in years. The Tories ran up giant deficits, and nearly bankrupted the council. We will always be financially responsible - it’s what council tax payers deserve.

šŸššŸ› While saving money, we’ve protected vital local services. Now we’ve been prudent with the finances, and we can afford to enhance them. We’ve just committed a massive Ā£25,000 for local warm hubs, and there’s lots of improvements coming soon šŸ”œ

šŸ™ļøšŸ› ļø We’re backing our town centres. 2025 will be Long Eaton’s Year of Levelling Up - the old Galaxy Row cinema is coming down this spring, and our Ā£10 million high street upgrade will start in the autumn. We’ve already secured money to fix the old Argos building on Bath St., and we’re prepping lots more bids for regeneration in Ilkeston.

šŸ šŸŒ³ We’ll keep delivering new social and affordable homes for local people. We’re bringing in new measures to clamp down on empty and second homes! At the same time, we’ll be working with outside partners to protect and enhance our natural environment🦊

There’s so much coming very, very soon, and it’s going to be so exciting when we finally get to announce them. Big news to come on car parking, bus shelters, play parks… stay tuned! 🌹

What I don’t understand is how a Conservative-run County Council is happy to accept cutbacks from the previous Conservative governments and then deal with the funding gap by removing services for the most vulnerable, most recently closing access to old folks’ care homes, as well as maintaining their appalling record on children’s Special Needs assessment and provision. The only people who come out of this in one piece are the wealthy. Of course, that was Government policy. Screw the most vulnerable.

Your council has set aside £25,000 to help organisations that offer vulnerable people a warm space, with a free hot meal and a drink, some company and safety.

Erewash under the Conservatives did not meet its housing targets - nowhere near. Here’s a useful step up; the current Labour-led Council and the Government are committed to building more, affordable homes, to tackle our local housing crisis.

It may not go far enough, but here’s some massive steps in the right direction. One of course is that Reeves is the first female Chancellor. Labour has brought a lot of seriously brilliant women forward into national politics and thank goodness for that.

Staff have SLAMMED the Derbyshire Conservatives’ plans to close numerous care homes and day centres, including Bennerley Fields care home in Ilkeston.

The Conservatives have brought Derbyshire County Council to the brink of financial collapse, just like Liz Truss and her disastrous mini-budget did to the country. Here in Erewash, this year Labour delivered a balanced budget and prevented Tory bankruptcy - clearly, only Labour can be trusted with the public finances.

With county council elections next year, the local Tories should hold off on making such a calamitous decision and let residents decide.
