Mission

The Young Communist League (YCL) traces its roots back to 1921, when it was set up as the youth wing of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) formed in 1920. We want a revolutionary transformation of society: an end to poverty, unemployment, destruction of the environment, exploitation and division – including oppression based on gender, race and sexual orientation – which capitalism maintains and manipulates in pursuit of profit. We want a socialist society where the people have shared democratic control over the wealth and power of the economy, so that big business and government support our common interests, instead of the current capitalist society where individual big business owners have complete control over our economy and thereby influence the government. We draw on the ideas of revolutionaries like Marx, Engels, Lenin and others, and the experiences of socialist countries since 1917. And we rely on the dedication and hard work of young people who want to struggle against injustice, and fight not only for their own future, but also for the future of their fellow human beings.
