Today we supported Mayor of Medway’s Charity appeal at a wonderful afternoon at Fort Amherst.

For more than 300 years the Fort has watched over Medway, helping to defend the River Medway, Chatham Dockyard and its towns.
We throughly enjoyed the tour of its remarkable tunnels and ramparts - and the lovely tea and eats that followed.

This afternoon we presented medals and awards to the top gymnasts at the Aeras London Development Open at Europa Gymnastics Centre.

The competition has been running for over 100 years and it was fantastic to see many young people who’d trained hard and given it their all today. Congratulations to all the gymnasts!

It was a stark reminder that it’s been a very very long time since I’ve done a cartwheel or handstand… I think I might just about manage a forward roll right now.

Europa has been part of the community for more than 30 years so it was wonderful to have this competition staged here.

Thank you to the team at Europa, the organising committee and volunteers from London Gymnastics, and the Aeras Aviation and The Zone for their sponsorship and support. You all helped make today a real success.

This evening we were honoured to mark the start of the walk of solidarity and support for Nepal.

Earlier this week, many of us gathered for a candlelight vigil, where the community came together to honour those who lost their lives in the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, and to stand with all who are grieving, waiting for news, or working tirelessly in rescue efforts.

Today, we continued that same spirit of unity. This walk is a reminder that compassion travels across borders, and that the Nepalese community is deeply valued here in Bexley. Their strength, togetherness, and commitment to one another inspire us all.

Good to be joined by Louie French and leader of London Borough of Bexley Cllr David Leaf. Thank you to the organisers and to all of you who joined this evening.

Next, we visited the Bexley Eco and Wellbeing Festival in Lesnes Abbey Woods.

The sun was shining brightly and we so enjoyed everything the festival had to offer - there were yoga classes, drumming workshops, performers, delicious food, parades, a mini sports day, clothes swap, arts and crafts with Girlguiding Bexleyheath and Welling and so much more.

from Cory.

Thank you to Sebby and Kimmy for telling me about their exciting day and for sweetly asking if I am a queen. (I’m not!)

It was lovely to see Raja Zeeshan Deputy Mayor of Royal Borough of Greenwich again - and great fun to race you on the bikes!

And a big happy 95th birthday to Jean Evans whom I met there today!

This festival is held every two years so make sure you attend the next one if you weren’t there today!

Our first stop today was with Hilary and her friends and neighbours in Bexleyheath who had organised a coffee morning and driveway sale to raise funds for Macmillan.

After enjoying a cup of tea and some delicious cake, I had the pleasure of drawing the raffle. They raised a fantastic amount of money today - congratulations to everyone involved.

It was lovely to meet you all and I’m so glad the weather was good!

The Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress celebrated Hippie Fest with the residents of Bupa Nursing Home Sidcup and were surprised to bump into Band again who delivered another brilliant set fresh from his stand out performance at the Braai the night before.

The Deputy Mayor was also invited up to speak about the importance of community, the Mayor's 3 charities Crossroads SEL, Diabetes UK Bexley Support Group and Trulybeloved: a children’s charity, as well as launch the Home's appeal for the local food bank.

As always with visits to care home, the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress were struck by just how fortunate we are in Bexley to have such wonderful people willing to do some of the most difficult jobs to make sure the most vulnerable in our society are looked after, we thank them again wholeheartedly for everything they do!

Last night's fundraiser was just brilliant - we mingled, we ate good food, we danced and we raised a fantastic amount for the three charities I'm supporting this year - Crossroads SEL, Diabetes UK Bexley Support Group, Trulybeloved: a children’s charity.

Thank you to everyone who supported our event last night. Thank you to the Mayor of Dartford, Deputy Mayor of London Borough of Bromley, Mayor of Swanscombe and Greenhithe, Mayor of London Borough of Redbridge, Mayor of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, and Deputy Mayor of Medway for attending.

Thank you to everyone who donated - to Fresh Eric's Cake Co Ltd for the delicious cakes that everyone loved, to Kaiya Spa for their generous donation of Spa vouchers for two. To Dave Curtois for his excellent painting of a zebra that we auctioned, and to those who gave us raffle prizes. I, and my charities, are very grateful.

Thank you to Pete, Paul and all the staff at The Star At Sidcup Place for all they did to make last night a success! You were brilliant!

Thank you to our performer Clayton Schlimper, who took us on a South African musical journey and kept us dancing for a long long time (I know you'll be pleased to hear he's back with us for our Christmas fundraiser!)

And, thank you to Justin Moore, my family, my Deputy Mayor Frazer Brooks, Paul Holloway and my fabulous team in the Mayor's office for everything!

This evening we gathered to remember and honour all those who lost their lives in the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.

On behalf of London Borough of Bexley, I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who have died, and to everyone whose lives have been shaken by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are also with those who are still missing and with their loved ones waiting for news, and with the rescue teams working in incredibly tough conditions. We pray for the safe and swift rescue of everyone who has yet to be found.

Moments like these remind us that distance does not soften grief. Many people in Bexley have family, friends and deep ties to Nepal and I know this news has brought sadness, worry and pain.

The Nepalese community is a valued and respected part of our borough. Your compassion, resilience and commitment to one another are truly admired. And tonight, we stood with you - in sorrow, in remembrance and in solidarity.
