Cambodia and Malaysia are looking to build on a relationship that has been steadily expanding in trade and investment.

The latest discussions between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and Malaysia’s Ambassador to Cambodia come at a time when trade between the two countries has grown by more than 55% in the first eight months of 2026. With bilateral trade already exceeding $1 billion last year, the scale of recent growth is drawing greater attention to the commercial relationship between the two markets.

Investment is also becoming an important part of the conversation. Malaysian businesses have been encouraged to explore opportunities in Cambodia, while Cambodia’s growing private sector is creating a wider base for commercial engagement.

For two economies with long-standing ties, the combination of stronger trade and renewed investment interest makes Cambodia–Malaysia relations worth watching as economic links within Asia continue to develop.

Kazakhstan and China are opening a new digital channel for businesses to trade agricultural products through a shared digital marketplace. The platform gives Kazakh exporters and Chinese buyers a more direct way to find partners, negotiate deals and trade with fewer intermediaries.

Built on China’s National Grain Trade Center, it connects businesses to a network of around 50,000 agricultural enterprises. With 35 Kazakh companies already registered and a first deal agreed for 24,000 tonnes of flaxseed, the platform is already creating a practical channel for agricultural trade between Kazakhstan and China.

Developments like this show how digital trade infrastructure can make international business more accessible and create new opportunities for companies looking to expand their reach across Asia.

India and Uzbekistan are targeting US$5 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, with current trade standing above US$1 billion. New measures aimed at reducing barriers to trade and investment could help support progress towards this target.

Removing non-tariff barriers, improving market access and payment systems, and expanding cooperation in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, engineering and critical minerals could create new opportunities for companies in both countries. Plans for UPI-based payments and a long-term uranium supply arrangement also add new areas for business cooperation, while greater collaboration in tourism and education can support stronger links across both economies.

Together, these developments provide a strong basis for further trade, investment and business partnerships, including opportunities for joint ventures and supply-chain cooperation as economic ties expand.

Singapore’s FDI into Kazakhstan reached around US$1.5 billion in 2025, while bilateral trade reached US$777 million in the first half of 2026, 2.5 times higher than in the same period last year.

The focus is increasingly on how this capital and trade growth can translate into business activity. Cooperation between Middle Corridor Multimodal and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise covers multimodal transport, trade facilitation and digital systems along the Middle Corridor, alongside discussions on AI and enterprise digital solutions.

This creates opportunities to connect Singapore’s expertise in logistics and digital services with Kazakhstan’s role as a gateway between Central Asia and wider international markets. The next step will be turning these areas of cooperation into projects, services and stronger business-to-business links.

India and Cambodia are building stronger trade and investment links, with bilateral trade reaching US$406.78 million in 2025–26, an increase of 36% from the previous year. Cambodia ranks as India’s eighth-largest trading partner among ASEAN countries.

The Third Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment (JWGTI) brought attention to business opportunities in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, banking, insurance, IT, healthcare, education and tourism, as well as progress towards a Bilateral Investment Treaty and closer customs cooperation.

The launch of UPI payments at KHQR-enabled merchants in Phnom Penh also adds another connection between the two markets, with work underway to enable Cambodian payment apps to scan UPI QR codes in India. For businesses, the growing focus on trade, investment and easier payments creates new possibilities for market access and cross-border business partnerships.

Indonesia and China are looking to take their economic relationship beyond the US$167 billion bilateral trade level following their inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) in Jakarta. The discussions point towards broader opportunities in trade, investment and industrial development.

The focus on energy, minerals, maritime trade, advanced technology and artificial intelligence reflects a relationship that is increasingly expanding into new areas of economic activity. Collaboration on critical minerals, food security and strategic infrastructure could also support greater economic stability and open new avenues for investment.

The development of the 2027-2031 Action Plan could provide a further framework for joint initiatives in these sectors. This could support investment in strategic resources and technology while expanding supply chain connections across Asia.

Bangladesh and Turkmenistan are looking at new opportunities to expand trade and business cooperation. Recent discussions between the two countries identified areas including textiles and apparel, cotton, jute and jute products, ceramics, agriculture, energy and investment.

Bangladesh’s established garment sector and Turkmenistan’s cotton production offer scope for stronger connections across the textile supply chain, while greater access for Bangladeshi products could open new opportunities for businesses in both markets.

The two sides are also looking at encouraging more interaction between private-sector businesses and chambers of commerce, with a proposed 2027–2029 programme set to provide a framework for future cooperation.

Closer links between companies in Bangladesh and Turkmenistan could help identify new markets, suppliers and investment opportunities in both countries.

Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are seeing bilateral trade accelerate rapidly, with Kazakh grain exports scaling up more than fourfold.

During recent trade discussions between Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov and Kyrgyz Minister Erlis Akunbekov, official figures revealed that agricultural trade reached $511.3 million in 2025. Total farm exchange expanded by 41.5% compared to the prior annual cycle, while outbound shipments from Kazakhstan to its neighbour accounted for $418.9 million. Alongside the sharp rise in grain shipments, oilseed deliveries grew 1.5 times as both markets focus on expanding product distribution under their current bilateral trade roadmap.

Malaysia and Hong Kong are taking further steps to deepen economic cooperation, creating new opportunities across capital markets, investment, trade and business connectivity.

A simplified framework for dual IPO listings between the two markets is due to take effect in September 2026. This will give eligible Malaysian companies a more accessible route to Hong Kong’s capital markets and a wider international investor base.

Cooperation has also been expanded to cover a broader range of investment products, including exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and real estate investment trusts (REITs), supporting greater cross-border investment and access to investment opportunities in both markets.

Beyond financial markets, stronger transport and trade connectivity can further support business links between Malaysia and Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s established capabilities in logistics, trade finance, arbitration and professional services can complement Malaysia’s growing strengths in electronics, semiconductors and other high value exports. Together, these developments can create stronger channels for businesses to access capital, reach new markets, develop trade relationships and expand investment across the region.

The closer economic relationship between Malaysia and Hong Kong highlights the potential of stronger Asian market connections to support long-term trade, investment and business growth.
