Many project management tools promise the world but don’t deliver when applied to real-world international development programmes. Scriptoria’s PMC™ is different. It was developed by professionals who’ve delivered global projects themselves, and refined through years of hands-on experience.

To celebrate Scriptoria’s 25th anniversary, we’re looking back at our strategic communications work, particularly in the decade that has passed since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals – and their ally, the Paris Agreement on climate action.

🔸 Goal 13: Climate Action 🔸

Project: The 2024 Breakthrough Agenda Report – Agriculture

Services provided: Editing | Graphic design | Web design | Factsheets and slide decks | Video | Social media

The Breakthrough Agenda was launched by world leaders at COP26, and since then, yearly reports have documented the innovation and deployment of clean technologies. The 2024 Breakthrough Agenda Report – Agriculture was the first standalone report to focus on sustainable practices in the agrifood system, and was produced by the world’s foremost public agricultural research consortium, CGIAR with the help of Scriptoria’s Strategic Communications Services Team.

We edited, designed and laid out the Breakthrough Report – and then the work began to communicate its vital messages. The Breakthrough Agenda, like SDG 13, is about action: galvanising international collaborators behind clean technologies. So Scriptoria created an engaging landing page with a full digital edition of the report and a suite of associated communications materials.

We turned snapshots from the full report into a series of factsheets and slide decks for upcoming sector events. The factsheets present new technologies to mitigate the two largest sources of greenhouse gases in the sector: livestock methane emissions and fertiliser production and use. For the launch, we then produced a teaser video and sharp social media toolkit.

Scriptoria has been working with CGIAR and its individual research centres for all of our 25 years, but helping it spread climate action on this scale was a true landmark for us.

If you are looking for an experienced strategic communications team with climate fluency, get in touch.

What makes a successful grant proposal? It’s not just the strength of the research idea, but how effectively you communicate its value to reviewers.

This week, we put that to the test with researchers at the Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing, University of Coimbra, through a mock grant review panel.

We brought together researchers at different career stages — from early-career researchers developing fellowship applications to established researchers preparing major proposals.

How did it work? Participants first received peer feedback, refined their proposals, and incorporated expert input from Scriptoria before putting their work to the test in a mock review panel.

The discussions were a great reminder that a strong research idea is only the starting point. A compelling grant proposal also needs a clear and persuasive story that helps reviewers understand why the research matters.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part for your openness, generosity and thoughtful engagement.

The theme of this year’s is innovative solutions to end global hunger.

Crucially, that includes both advanced technologies and joined-up, forward-thinking policies. Often the evidence for interventions is clear – but the real challenge is in dismantling entrenched institutional silos and convincing policymakers to act.

At Scriptoria, our Strategic Communications Team bridges this gap. We help sustainable development organisations, governments and NGOs translate complex research into compelling policy narratives that drive real-world impact.

In a recent blog from International Water Management Institute (IWMI), we worked with experts to present the case that the ‘Second Green Revolution’ requires targeted spatial intelligence to protect global food systems.

It is a prime example of how we help our partners amplify evidence to influence decision-makers. If your organisation is struggling to turn complex data into actionable policy priorities, get in touch.

This week, we’re marking 🌍🌾

Sustainable development is Scriptoria’s bread and butter, so this year’s theme, “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” feels very relevant to the work we do.

We support people and organisations across the food and agriculture sector, from university researchers to NGOs working directly with farmers and crop breeders.

Our training team brings that experience and passion into the courses we deliver, helping researchers and professionals build practical skills in grant and proposal writing, research communication and project management.

Alongside group training, we also offer 1:1 support for people developing live funding applications, helping them apply what they’ve learned directly to their own proposals.

This year’s UN International Day of Rural Women highlights the pivotal role women in rural areas play in protecting biodiversity, managing water and restoring degraded land. 🐝💧🌾

Scriptoria’s Strategic Communications Team worked with our long-term partner International Water Management Institute (IWMI) to highlight the Institute’s initiatives in this area, including those aimed at strengthening the leadership capacities of Nepalese women in the water and energy sectors. True climate resilience requires looking beyond infrastructure. We must place human equity at the heart of local water, energy and food planning.
