📽️ This Black History Month, let's rewind to the final Woolwich Summer Lates weekend curated by the National Windrush Museum.

Museum Director, Denize Ledeatte, spoke about their Windrush Food Culture exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, the importance of food history, how recipes get passed down the generations and every dish tells a story.

The exhibition has now wrapped up but you can explore the National Windrush Museum's online archive to take a journey through Black British history and culture.

"There was a change from the life I had before.”

This National Hate Crime Awareness Week, we spoke to Andy and Mia* about their experiences of hate crime by a neighbour and its devastating impact.

Andy experienced 20 years of abuse which included racial slurs, damage of his property, and tragically the poisoning of his dog.

Mia, who lived with her young son, experienced hostility and intimidation from her neighbours.

📞 If you ever experience or witness a hate crime, report it to the police by calling 999 in an emergency and 101 in non-urgent situations. Or you can report incidents to the council by emailing [email protected]

It's your last chance to have your say on our proposal to expand our selective licensing scheme on private properties rented to a single household. 🏠

❗Our consultation closes tomorrow at 11:59pm ❗

Our current scheme has improved safety standards, reduced hazards, and helped reduce anti-social behaviour. That’s why we’re proposing a new scheme which covers 70% of the borough.

Complete our online survey before it closes (link in the comments) ⬇️

💙 Celebrating our kinship carers 💙

This Kinship Carers Week, we're thanking the relatives, friends and family members who step up to care for children when their parents are unable to do so.

Kinship carers provide love, stability and a sense of belonging, helping children stay connected to the people and communities that matter most to them.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 If you're caring for the child of a relative or friend, support may be available to help you.

Works to improve safety around Plumcroft Primary School will begin on Plum Lane from Monday 12 October.

We are carrying out improvements at the junctions of Plum Lane with Genesta Road, Hinstock Road and Nithdale Road.

The works will include new kerb extensions, improved pedestrian crossings and new double yellow lines around the junctions. The improvements are designed to make crossings safer, reduce vehicle speeds and improve junction safety.

All roads will remain open during the works and access to properties will be maintained. However, there will be some temporary parking suspensions, and temporary traffic lights and signal-controlled crossings will be in place while the works are carried out.

The works are expected to last around three weeks, finishing by 31 October.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank residents and road users for their patience while these safety improvements are carried out.

At 9:30am on Friday (9 October), there will be a test fire on Barrack Field on the grounds of the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich.

You may hear some loud bangs in the area but be assured this is a controlled test and nothing to be worried about. For your safety, pedestrian gates will be locked during this time.
