We bid farewell to LCpl Flynn, who has served in the Household Division Bands for just over a decade. Her first posting was to the Band of the Grenadier Guards in 2016, and she has been a valued member of the Band of the Scots Guards since 2019.

During her time in the Household Division, LCpl Flynn has qualified as a Physical Training Instructor, leading the band through many challenging fitness sessions, and has become a keen enthusiast of Hyrox. She is a great performer on both the E-flat and B-flat clarinet, with numerous solo performances in our concerts, most notably her rendition of the theme from “The Terminal”.

Among her favourite memories with the band are overseas tours to Washington, D.C. and South Korea. Of all the occasions she has taken part in, her most memorable were the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the The Duke of Edinburgh, where she was honoured to play a role in two significant moments of national history.

Earlier this year, LCpl Flynn successfully passed selection for the Royal Army Physical Training Corps (RAPTC), a testament to her dedication and commitment. As she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her Army career, she leaves behind many friends and colleagues who have valued her contribution both on parade and in the concert hall.

LCpl Flynn has been a wonderful member of the Clarinet section and we wish her the very best and every success in her future career with the RAPTC.

Today was the Scots Guards’ Black Sunday, the regiment’s own remembrance day where those who paid the ultimate sacrifice are commemorated by serving and ex-members of the regiment.

The band played for the church service at the Guards Chapel and shortly after marched at the front of the regiment combined with the 1st Battalion Pipes and Drums down to the Guards Memorial, at Horse Guards Parade. A short act of remembrance including wreath laying, last post, piper’s lament, minute’s silence and reveille was observed.

Members of the Band of the Scots Guards walked the Camino de Santiago – The English way.

With Sgt Needham organising the trip, Sgt Devery, Sgt Dann, LCpl Milum, LCpl Mackenzie, Musn Farrar, and Musn Lewis embarked on an unforgettable adventure.

Starting from the naval port city of Ferrol in the northern region of Galicia; musicians walked 111km of undulating terrain over 5 days to Santiago de Compostela, the resting place of St James the Apostle.

Pilgrims have ventured across many countries, since the 10th century, to visit the tomb of St James. As well as the Christian benefits to the Camino, the team were challenged physically and mentally throughout their journey. The enhanced team cohesion and opportunity to be a part of this expedition is just one of the many opportunities that life as an Army Musician presents.

The team took the opportunity to raise funds for both AGC and RCAM Corps trusts. Please donate to the charity which looks after the welfare and benevolence of its serving and retired members.

Three musicians from the Band, Musician McPherson, Cowling, and Rose set off on an unforgettable alpine skiing adventure "Exercise Allegro Snow", in the Italian resort of Sauze d'Oulx.

Over the course of the week, they pushed their limits, both mentally and physically, as they navigated the slopes and embraced the challenges of the sport, learning how to ski under the supervision of military instructors.

Musician Rose earned the title of “Most Improved Novice” for his progress on the slopes, a display of perseverance and determination. The trio not only experienced the thrill of skiing but also earned their Ski Foundation Level 1 qualification, a significant achievement.

Skiing is just one of many sports that the British Army facilitates in the form of Adventurous Training.
