Single Homeless Project

Single Homeless Project Working to prevent homelessness and help Londoners to transform their lives. Single Homeless Project is a London-wide charity.

Our vision is of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life. We help single Londoners by preventing homelessness, providing support and accommodation, promoting wellbeing, enhancing opportunity, and being a voice for change. From supporting people in crisis to helping people take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a differen

ce to 10,000 lives every year across all 32 boroughs. Our Values

Clients hold the key - as an organisation founded by homeless people, we believe in the fundamental right of every individual to take control of their lives. Tailoring support to their needs and aspirations, we work with people to build their capacity for self-determination, so that they can shape their own futures. Going the extra mile - we go the extra mile for the people we work with, many of whom have multiple and complex needs for which there are no quick and easy fixes. We keep working with people no matter how challenging it may be, and we donโ€™t give up on them. People, not problems - we see our clients as people, not problems. As well as offering practical support, we believe itโ€™s essential to give people the opportunity to discover a sense of purpose, to grow in confidence, express themselves and build meaningful relationships. A voice for change - we are committed to tackling the underlying causes of homelessness and social exclusion, and we will use what we learn to make the case for prevention and systemic change. We are also passionate about promoting the voices of homeless and vulnerable people, whose stories often go unheard. Supporting staff - we maintain a culture in which staff are respected, supported, and listened to. We value the contribution of all staff and we are a diverse organisation that pulls together, in a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation. We encourage creativity and new ideas, prizing innovation as a means of achieving our mission. Honest and open - we are honest and open in our dealings with clients, staff, partners, supporters and other stakeholders. We will do what we say we will do, and we will strive to communicate proactively and transparently.

Ready, setโ€ฆSports Day! ๐Ÿƒ

This week, more than 250 clients and staff from across London will come together for our annual day of sport, connection, and friendly competition. ๐Ÿ†

For nine years, our Sports Project has been helping Londoners get active, improve their mental and physical health, tackle isolation and create a real sense of belonging.

We canโ€™t wait to see everyone there! ๐Ÿ’œ

Women experience homelessness differently to men, facing unique challenges, trauma and barriers to accessing support. ๐Ÿšบ

Thatโ€™s why our specialist womenโ€™s hostels are designed to provide safe, understanding and trauma-informed spaces, where women can access the support they need without judgement. ๐Ÿ’œ

Our approach is flexible, gender-informed and tailored to each womanโ€™s needs, supporting women with their recovery, rebuilding confidence and taking steps towards greater independence. โœจ

Eight years ago, we launched our Achieving Potential programme to create more opportunities for Londoners to build confidence, develop skills and move towards the future they want. โœจ

Since then, the programme has grown and evolved, shaped just as much by the people taking part as by the staff delivering it.

Having been there from the start, Joe Mitchell, who heads the programme, shares some of the biggest lessons heโ€™s learned. ๐Ÿ‘‡

For a long time, that was how Alice preferred things. After years of trauma and homelessness, keeping people at a distance felt safer than risking being hurt again.

Today, things look very different. Her weeks are spent playing tennis, badminton and table tennis with our Sports programme, alongside the friends sheโ€™s made through it. ๐ŸŽพ

โ€œI feel like Iโ€™m part of something. I feel wanted. Iโ€™ve never felt like that with my family or friends before.โ€ โค๏ธ

Our Achieving Potential programme set out to help people move beyond homelessness by opening doors to education, training, employment and new opportunities. โœจ

We offer a range of activities, from creative pursuits such as art, drama, and music to sports, cooking, and trips, as well as psychological support - with the ultimate goal of supporting people into employment and independence.

The programme continues to grow and evolve, shaped not just by our staff, but by the Londoners we support.

Having been there from the very beginning, our Head of Achieving Potential, Joe Mitchell, reflects on what managing the programme have taught him. ๐Ÿ‘‡

177,530 children in England are now living in temporary accommodation. ๐Ÿจ

Thatโ€™s up 5% in just one year. The 18th quarterly increase in a row - over four years where the numbers have gone up. Let that sink in....

Behind every statistic is a child growing up without the security of a permanent home. A family living out of bags. Parents wondering when theyโ€™ll finally get the keys to somewhere they can call their own.

No child should be raised in a hostel room. And no family should spend years waiting for a front door of their own. ๐Ÿ

Thatโ€™s why the Governmentโ€™s commitment to build more social and council homes matters.

Here in London, up to ยฃ11.7 billion of Government funding will support new social and affordable homes over the next decade, with at least 60% of homes expected to be for social rent.

That investment is hugely welcome. Now it must translate into the safe, secure homes Londonโ€™s families desperately need.

We cannot accept temporary accommodation as a childhood. โŒ

James moved through seven foster homes before finding stability. At 19, he had to take another big step: leaving care and starting life on his own.

Thatโ€™s when he found Single Homeless Project.

With a safe place to live and a team in his corner, James built his independence, found a creative outlet through our SoundHouse music project, and got support through some incredibly tough moments with his mental health.

Today, James has his own home, is in his second year of a music production degree and has a job he loves. ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿก

We believe every young person deserves the chance to build a future theyโ€™re excited about. Sometimes, they just need someone there to remind them: youโ€™ve got this.

Weโ€™re so proud of how far James has come - and we canโ€™t wait to see what his next chapter brings. ๐Ÿ’›

Some choices should never have to be made.

For Martin, it was a choice between a roof over his head and his best friend, Co-zee. ๐Ÿ˜”

He chose Co-zee. That decision meant spending more than two years sleeping rough.

No one should ever be in that position. That's why we offer pet-friendly accommodation, helping people and their pets stay together as they rebuild their lives. ๐Ÿ’š
