As children settle back at school and we move closer to the winter months, this is a great time to understand some of the common illnesses that might cause disruption to children’s time in school during the colder season.

We're sharing a blog below from UK Health Security Agency that explores available vaccinations, recognising symptoms of common illnesses, and making informed decisions on whether a sick student is well enough to attend their setting.

If your child is preparing to start school, there’s still time to help them build confidence using the toilet on their own. 🚽📚

Small, consistent steps can make a real difference. A simple conversation about what's changing can help children feel more prepared and start understanding what toilet training is all about.

Remember, every child develops differently and some children with additional needs may need more support. Focus on progress, not perfection, and take things one step at a time 👣

Visit Best Start in Life or speak with your health visitor or for more trusted advice and practical tips on toilet training.

School may be just around the corner, but there's still time to practise toilet training with your child. 🚽

Toilet training is more than just using the loo. It's about helping children know when they need to go, ask for help if they need it, manage clothing, wash their hands and build the confidence to take on new routines when they start school. 📚

Every child develops at their own pace, and some children, including those with additional needs, may need more time and support than others - toilet training is all about progress, not perfection.

The Best Start in Life 'Toilet Training Talks' series is packed with practical advice to help you support your child as they get ready for school, one step at a time. 👣 💗

Sometimes the biggest progress comes from the smallest steps. Whether it's sitting on the toilet or simply giving it a try, every attempt is worth celebrating 🙌

Praise and encouragement can help children feel more confident as they learn new skills. And because every child develops at their own pace, those small wins will look different for every family.

Visit Best Start in Life or speak to your health visitor for more trusted advice and practical tips on toilet training.

Preparing for school isn’t about ticking off a checklist - it’s about small steps, practised together, that build confidence over time. 🎒✨

Today, we're sharing some advice around screen time:

1. Have some screen-free times, like mealtimes and bedtime, to make space for talking and playing together.
2. Try to limit screen time to one hour a day or less for children aged between 2 and 5.
3. Sharing your child's screen time and chatting about it helps their development.
