Dangerous goods. Changing regulations. Stay prepared.


The IMDG Code provides the international regulatory framework for the safe transport of dangerous goods and marine pollutants by sea.

The latest IMDG Code (Amendment 43-26) introduces significant updates, including new provisions for lithium and sodium-ion batteries, clearer requirements for vehicles and electric vehicles, and new provisions for vehicle safety assessment.

The changes can be applied voluntarily from 1 January 2027 and become mandatory from 1 January 2028.

Exploring the use of ammonia as marine fuel in shipping.

International experts have shared their insight on the use of ammonia as marine fuel during an IMO technical seminar at IMO HQ, London.

Organized by IMO’s IMO Future Fuels and Technology Project - the seminar brought together around 800 participants from IMO Member States, NGOs, IGOs, industry and academia.

Participants exchanged technical information and experiences on the potential use of ammonia as a marine fuel, including developments in production, bunkering and infrastructure, technology developments, notably on ammonia-fuelled engines and control of emissions, as well as safety and environmental considerations.
