The Hair Council was set up in 1964 by an Act of Parliament. This means that hairdressers can apply to become State Registered in the same way as doctors, dentists or nurses can. The only difference is that it is currently voluntary to belong to the UK Register of qualified hairdressers, but the Hair Council is campaigning to make registration mandatory in the aim to raise standards within the Ind

ustry. The Hairdressing Council believes in the professionalism and passion of hairdressing and its aim is to raise standards, making the industry self regulated. Ideally every hairdresser should be state registered which would eliminate those cowboys who practise hairdressing with no qualifications or experience whatsoever. Once registered, you can log in to the members area of the website and find exclusive goods, offers and discounts, details about how to become a Master Craftsman and read the latest SRH magazine. Details of how to get discounted insurance are also available. Once registered, your Salon details will be included in the online Register where consumers are able to search for their nearest State Registered Hairdresser. Sometimes it’s not actually about the hair…

…It’s the cup of tea, the life chats, the oversharing, the laughs, the tears and those little “oh my god, me too” moments.

Because life is a lot sometimes, and I really believe coping is made a little easier when you know you’re not doing it alone.

That’s always been a huge part of The Craft Hairdresser for me.

Yes, I’ll make your hair feel good… but I also want you to leave feeling like you belong…

…. and now I take it beyond the salon chair too.

Craft & Connect is for my kind of people. A little creativity, a little community and an excuse to do something that fills your cup.

Police will soon gain powers to close down "dodgy" barbers, v**e shops and nail salons for up to 12 months.

The new measures announced by Prime Minister Andy Burnham will be a targeted effort to tackle "dodgy" barbers.

We're delighted government is listening to the issues we've been highlighting but this isn't enough and mandating of the register is the obvious next step to close these illegal shops down

We were kept busy throughout our event at the House of Commons last month, as this reel shows! 🎥

Gareth, and Collette from spent the day speaking with MPs about the issues affecting the hair and barbering sector.

We also caught up with Mike to hear why he helped organise the event, and spoke with Jo Platt MP about her passion for supporting British high street businesses, including hairdressers and barbers.

Take a look behind the scenes and hear what they had to say.
