National Hate Crime Awareness Week | Lewisham Stands Together

Lewisham’s diversity is its greatest strength. Everyone here deserves to feel safe and welcome, whatever their race, faith, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Under Labour, Lewisham became the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary and set up local centres where anyone can report hate crime anonymously.

With antisemitic and anti-Muslim hate rising across London, this year the Mayor of London put a further £875,000 into grassroots groups tackling hate through education and prevention.

We’ll keep standing with residents and community groups, and we’ll work with anyone across the council chamber to keep every community safe.

It’s been 9 days since the Green Party passed its ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion. Lewisham’s Mayor Liam Shrivastava still hasn’t said whether he supports it.

5 days since Lewisham’s Labour MPs first wrote to him. No reply.

His own Cabinet Member for Communities, Sanctuary and Healing officially supported the motion.

Residents deserve a straight answer. Why won’t you tell us where you stand, Liam?

A family-friendly Lewisham 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Tonight, we’re calling for Lewisham Council to back our Labour motion for better parental leave for Council employees.

We’re asking the Council to review its existing policies with the aim to introducing a minimum of six weeks fully paid paternity or adoption leave for eligible dads and second parents.

We want Lewisham Council to lead by example as a family-friendly employer, supporting parents, improving equality and helping staff balance work and family life.

Better support for new parents. A fairer workplace. A more family-friendly Lewisham.

Lewisham Labour councillors were out early with the waste team helping to empty residents’ recycling bins on Blacklands Road ♻️

Sadly, the team also shared stories of being sworn at, assaulted and having weapons drawn on them in the course of doing their jobs. Every waste team member plays an important role in keeping our borough clean, and abuse of any kind is always unacceptable.
