As 2025 comes to a close, the research and cataloguing of RWF lads killed during the Great war continues.
Keith Jones formally of the RWF museum in Caernarfon has retired which gives him more time to put together the photographs that i've taken of the lads when i'm on my travels.
So if you've lost a family member who served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers during the great war, please get in contact, we may have some information on him and know where he is.
Thank you so much for checking this page out and here's to adding to around the 2000 photographs we have in 2026. Cheerseverbody🥂

When 30 Corps jamp off from Joe's Bridge, many Llanrwst lads ventured into the unknown, some never to return.
Joe's Bridge is the nickname given to Bridge No.9 on the Bocholt-Herentals Canal, in the Belgian city of Lommel just south of the Belgian-Dutch border. The bridge was captured by British troops in September 1944, becoming the springboard for the ground offensive of Operation Market-Garden.

Again not directly related to Llanrwst but a fair few of our lads would have fought in this area with the Canadians.
The Vimy Ridge Memorial is a Canadian war memorial located on Vimy Ridge in Pas-de-Calais, France, it is dedicated to the memory of Canadian soldiers killed during the Great War.
It also commemorates the 11,285 Canadians who died with no known grave. The 27-meter-tall monument, designed by Walter Seymour Allward, was unveiled in 1936. It is situated on the highest point of the ridge and overlooks the Douai Plain.
The Monument is breathtaking, and definitely worth a visit on any battlefield trip you're planning.

On the 7th of November 1920, four bodies covered in a union jack were brought into the chapel at St Pol from four different battle areas – the Aisne, the Somme, Arras and Ypres. The commander of British troops in France and Flanders, Brigadier General L Wyatt, chose the warrior and the remaining three were reburied some believe in St Pol but there in itself lies a mystery. The Unknown Warrior then made its way to London, where crowds lined the streets in silence as the coffin was pulled by horse and carriage to be laid to rest in Westminster Abbey. A nations son brought home at last.

This video shows the beginning of his journey.

Not Llanrwst related, but when we are away we visit many lads who gave their tomorrows for our freedom, even those who spark contoversy have a place in our history.
Private Albert Ingham was a soldier in the Manchester Regiment who died on December 1, 1916, at age 24, and is buried at Bailleulmont Communal Cemetery in France. He was one of the first to enlist and, along with Private Alfred Longshaw, was executed by firing squad "at dawn". His war grave is the only one to have "shot at dawn" inscribed on it, placed there at his father's request. There are 5 lads in this cemetery who where shot at dawn, no matter what you think of them they were someone's son, brother, husband, friend. Lest we forget

Bit of an eye opener when you walk through the gates at Etaples Military Cemetery. Wave after wave of young men lost forever.
Two are from Llanrwst.

Gunner R J Evans 19th Royal Field Artillery. Not named on the towns War Memorial as his parents lived up the road in Llandewi.

Gunner Richard Roberts, Royal Garrison Artillery, 1st (Welsh) Heavy Battery. Again not named on the Llanrwst War Memorial.

Lest We Forget.

Let's not forget there are two sides in every story, and three truths. 20-9-25 saw a visit to the German Military Cemetery at Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. The site is having some work done to it at the moment so access is limited but well worth a visit. The cemetery holds the remains WW1 German POW's and Zepplin crews. Also high ranking Germans and fighter aces from WW2. Definitely worth a visit just to see how the Germans honour they're fallen.
