Finished a busy Monday by calling into the AGM at Beechland Community Group. Always great to bump into Sorcha Eastwood for a gossip and a catch up 💛.

Popped into The Tea Room At Hilden Mill for a lovely bowl of soup and a great catch up with some of the school mums.

Well done to my friend and colleague Councillor Aaron McIntyre who was appointed as Deputy Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh Council today. I want to wish you all the best in your new role and can't wait to see you thrive and succeed 👏

Last October my colleague Cllr Bronagh Magee brought forward a motion asking the council to explore the possibilities of providing more sustainable burial options.

This week a paper returned to committee stating that sustainable and alternative burial options should be considered in all future council cemetery projects. This is a great step forward in providing people with choice with something that is deeply personal and emotive.

I was pleased to second the motion in October and again pleased to second the report this week.

⚠️New Public toliets blocked by the DUP & UUP with support of the independent member⚠️

My colleague Cllr Nicola Parker has been campaigning to have new toliet facilities in Bow Street since 2023.

Tonight that paper came towards committee to make this a reality and it was blocked by the DUP, UUP and independent member. Instead they supported the refurbishment of the Linen centre. Something which was already agreed and on the strategic plan to happen anyway.

🚽🚻Public Toilets - Bow Street 🚽🚻

I'm normally not one to fling mud or in this instance 💩 but to say I'm fuming is in an understatement!! Tonight in council a paper was brought offering us the option of putting public toilets, owned and maintained by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council in Bow Street. Tonight Alliance and Sinn fein were the only parties to support this. The DUP, UUP and the Independent member supported the refurbishment of the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum toilets.

Whilst the refurbishment is welcomed, it was already on the capital programme to be completed!!!!

I have been asking for public toilets on Bow Street since 2024!! Other parties claim to have been asking the same, yet tonight they had the opportunity to bring it to fruition and in a recorded vote, voted against it!!!!

I'm fuming but not defeated and if I need to talk 💩 at every committee from now until I'm blue in the face, I will, because by not providing toilets in Bow Street we are doing a total disservice to our residents, disabled, people with medical conditions, parents and anyone else who can't walk 6-8 minutes to the nearest toilet (and this is between the hours of 9-5)!!!

Thank you so much to Repair Cafe NI and NIRN - Northern Ireland Resources Network for hosting the repair shop at Resurgam Healthy Living Centre today. I popped down and was able to get my daughters costume fixed for her. She is very pleased 🧵

Well done Alderman Amanda Grehan 👏 what a year as Mayor! You have done a fantastic job 🎉

As her term ends, Amanda Grehan has been reflecting on her achievements and time as the first woman to serve as Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh.

Sitting in the Mayor’s Parlour before she bowed out, it’s easy to assume that a career in politics was her calling.

But when asked if she had always dreamed of a political career, her response was clear.

“Oh no. Not at all,” she answered.

A while ago I was notified by a dear friend about some vandalism at the Garden of Reflection. They suggested a plaque to raise awareness of what the area is and the special place it holds for so many.

I contacted council officers who quickly responded and today the plaque was revealed at the annual Garden of Reflection service 🤍
