Happy, & slightly terrifying, memories of The Bower…. THE BIG HEADS! 🎭

Come and meet them again tomorrow at The Old Grammar School - they’re part of our special displays to mark the history of the Lichfield Bower. 🌿

The heads are still pretty intimidating to be honest…. and we’re not quite sure what the younger generation are going to make of them (!) but definitely worth seeing again up close and reliving those memories of Bowers gone by. 🙂 🎠

The Old Grammar School will be open, as will the Old School Yard Garden, between 9.30am and 11.30am. 👨🏻‍🎓

We’re just across St John’s Street from St John’s Hospital, come in through the garden gate. 💐

Join us for history displays (inc the medieval Bower armour 💫), family games in the garden, second-hand book sale, & more… 📚

Step inside…. The Old School Yard Garden tomorrow, for Bower Morning, from 9.30 to 11.30. 🌿🌞

Find us on St John’s Street, across the road from St John’s Hospital - the school gate will be open, look out for the bunting! 🚩

The Master’s House will be open too, with special Lichfield Bower museum displays, sharing a proud history that goes back almost 1000 years. 🎠

Entry is totally free, although donations always welcome!, and we’ll have traditional games on the lawn, fun family activities, second-hand books to buy & the whole place will be packed with Lichfeldian history…. 🎯

Lovely afternoon out and about in Beacon Park - although might have lost at the v impressive & new-look adventure golf, which has opened up again this morning. 😖⛳️

Here’s to…. THE BOWER 2026! 🙌🏻

Was an absolute pleasure to welcome the Lichfield Bower committee last night, and host their very last committee meeting before this weekend’s celebrations and festivities! 🎪

We’ll be opening up The Old Grammar School & its beautiful Old School Yard Garden between 930 and 1130 on Monday, through the gate just across from St John’s Hospital.👨🏻‍🎓

Come and see extraordinary displays about all things The Bower, that we’ve finished setting up tonight…. Shining medieval armour, giant heads (more about those tomorrow!), vintage photographs & more… Please do share your memories with us too. 🗡️

A real highlight of last night was to chat with Paul. Paul joined the Bower Committee at the age of 17 and, since the early 1960s, looked after the Bower Armour and prepared it to be worn on the parade - it was a privilege to hear Paul’s stories and a pleasure to reunite him with the armour. We’re going to be doing a full oral history interview to record Paul’s memories soon. 🤺

So, see you on Monday everyone! 🌞

We’ve got lots of traditional games in the garden too, but, do remember, we’ll be closing up after 1130 so all of us volunteers, and our families, can head just around the corner to watch the procession come into town, as it has done for almost 1000 years. We can’t wait!🎠

Check out special history displays, see the medieval Bower armour up close, enjoy traditional games in the beautiful Old School Yard Garden, and much more…. 💫

‘Do you think it’ll rain for The Bower…?’ Not this year, according to the forecast!

We can’t wait to join the Lichfield Bower celebrations on Monday, opening The Old Grammar School & School Yard Garden for a special Bower morning, from 930 to 1130. 👨🏻‍🎓

Join us for history, fun, games in the garden, the chance to see the famous Bower shining armour, and special Bower historic treasures we’ll be sharing more about later this week… 💫

It promises to be a fantastic Lichfield day to remember as our city follows in the footsteps of centuries of tradition - check out The Bower page for more information about the day. 👏🏻

Morning all - just one week to go until Lichfield Bower 2026! 🌱

We are very excited & busy getting The Old Grammar School, and its beautiful garden, ready to welcome you on Bower Morning. 👨🏻‍🎓

We’ll be open from 9.30am to 11.30am, with special surprises that we’ll share more about about during the week. 💫

We’ll have Lichfield’s historic shining Bower armour on display too. Marvel at it up close and imagine Bower displays of centuries gone by…. ⚔️

Bower Day sometimes gets a bit of a reputation for not getting the best weather (!), but this year the forecast is for brilliant sunshine and blue skies all day. We can’t wait! 🌞
