This week marks Local Council Clerk Week (LCCW) 2026, a dedicated opportunity to celebrate and recognise the invaluable work that local council clerks undertake for their communities. Taking place from 8th–12th June, the week aims to raise awareness of the clerk's role, encourage connections across the sector and highlight the vital contribution clerks make to local government.

Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council is fortunate to have Helen Greengrass as its Town Clerk. Helen works tirelessly to support the community, councillors and council staff, ensuring the smooth running of the council and its many activities.

From late nights and early starts to preparing meeting agendas and minutes, managing projects, organising events, providing advice and overseeing day-to-day operations, the role of Town Clerk encompasses a huge range of responsibilities, many of which take place behind the scenes.

As part of Local Council Clerk Week, Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to Helen for her dedication, professionalism and commitment. Her hard work often goes unseen, but it is greatly appreciated by the council and the wider community.

What a fantastic way to kick off the The Climate Coalition's Great Big Green Week in Leiston!
Yesterday, The Long Shop Museum hosted an incredible Repair Café, bringing the community together to give everyday items a new lease of life rather than sending them to landfill. Thanks to the skills and dedication of an amazing team of volunteers, a variety of much-loved possessions were restored back to full working order – including a toaster, chair, lawnmower and carpet cleaner.

The event was a brilliant example of sustainability in action, helping residents save money, reduce waste and learn more about repairing and reusing the things we already have. Just as importantly, it highlighted the power of community spirit, with volunteers generously sharing their time, expertise and enthusiasm to help others.

There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day, and the success of the event has certainly sparked conversations about making the Repair Café a more regular fixture in Leiston's calendar... so watch this space!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and delivering such a worthwhile initiative, especially the volunteers whose hard work made the event possible. Here's to many more opportunities to repair, reuse and reconnect as a community.

What a great success! 💚 Find out what else is happening in Leiston this week: https://www.netzeroleiston.info/leistons-great-big-green-week/
